The Cybertruck, yes.

I have serious doubts it'll come out.

I actually have a reservation for one.  Sort of me just buying weird shit.  It's only $100 down to get a reservation.

What's interesting is the price.  Basically the prices and specs they advertised for the reservations were ridiculously good.  A 50k truck that should cost 110k.

I seriously doubt they'll stick with the original prices but it'll be fun to watch.

It'll have to come out in some way, as it's Musk's baby and he has his ego to think about.  Whether it will ever go into mass production is another thing...I have doubts.

And $50k seems very unlikely.

I think it might play out similar to the Tesla Semi.  Hyped up.  Very late.  There's a few sold but for some reason everyone is very quiet about it.  Electric vehicles have a serious disadvantage when it comes to towing that they've never been able to overcome.  As far as I can tell the only load that the Tesla Semi can carry which comes close to their range estimate is a truck load of potato chips.

Rivian sells a truck at 90k that's similar to what Tesla was promising three years at 50k.

Electric motors have very good torque. I dont think towing power will be an issue. Only range.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/elizabeth-warren-says-senate-investigate-elon-musks-role-thwarting-att-rcna104891

Quote
WASHINGTON — Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said Wednesday that the Senate should investigate tech billionaire Elon Musk's alleged role in thwarting a Ukrainian drone from attacking Russia's naval fleet last year in the Black Sea.

"We need to investigate how this happened. What’s in those contracts that permits him to have this kind of power?" Warren said to reporters outside a forum about artificial intelligence on Capitol Hill that Musk participated in with other major tech CEOs.

Warren, who attended the event, which was closed to the public and press, said that it's Congress' responsibility to investigate what unfolded.

The U.S. military, she added, should also evaluate its contracts with SpaceX. The Pentagon announced in June that it had agreed to purchase Starlink satellite internet terminals from Musk's SpaceX to be used in Ukraine amid its lengthy war with Russia.

"It is also the responsibility of the Department of Defense to go back and take a look at those contracts," she said. "That kind of activity poses a danger to the United States, to Ukraine and to the rest of the world."

The Democratic senator — who is a member of the Armed Services Committee, including the subcommittee on emerging threats and capabilities — had told reporters this week that the Pentagon needs to probe “our contractual relationship with SpaceX.” She said, “Congress needs to review this."

“Foreign policy is made by the United States government, not by one billionaire,” she said. “The Congress needs to investigate what’s happened here and whether we have adequate tools to make sure that foreign policy is conducted by the government and not by one billionaire.”

It's insane to me that a member of the Armed Services Committee doesn't know that Elon Musk doesn't work for Ukraine. The United States govt didn't ask Musk to turn on Starlink for that attack, and even if they had asked him to, he could still have said no. He already explained why he said no.

I think Elon Musk is a bit of a creepy jerk, but I can't help but think it is great every time he pisses these people off.

It's a complicated situation.  I think a congressional hearing is probably a good idea.  Not to grill Elon but to explain just what the hell is going on.  There's several things that I think need explaining.

1.  So the Pentagon is SpaceX's biggest financer and biggest customer.  To claim that SpaceX's mission is to bring Netflix to South America would be like General Dynamics saying their mission statement is to teach high school kids how to pilot drones for fun.  How is it that Elon presents himself as some kind of self made rocket scientist that's just here to bring space to everyone?

2.  This deal that Elon gave Ukraine really looks like he structured assistance paid for by the government  to look like he donated it.  I can't get clear details on this.  The Pentagon refuses to elaborate on it.

3.  SpaceX didn't invent satellite communications.  The Pentagon has already figured this out.  Why are we sending SpaceX?  I get the impression that the DOD sent SpaceX to give us some distance from the conflict.  But that's kind of a conspiracy theory on my part.

The answers have ramifications regarding his decision to restrict Starlink over Crimea.

If Elon really did initiate aid to Ukraine on his own, without government input, then he's just a shithead who was stupid enough to get tricked by Putin.

If Elon was just a vendor that got paid by the government to send Starlink to Ukraine.  He then has less of a right to restrict how they use it.

Fortunately it appears that the DOD has rectified the mistake and are now putting themselves in direct control of Starlink which they probably should have done i the first place.

Depending on what the contract actually said, he might not have been permitted to say no. He could still say it, but it would be violating the contract (assuming the contract had those requirements).

I'm not sure, but at the time I don't think he had a contract (with the US govt) to supply internet service to Ukraine. We can't really count on the media to do more than play to their audiences, so getting real information is next to impossible.

I agree with Crouton that a hearing is probably in order just to find out the truth, but I've seen lots of Senate hearings and the truth is usually not what any of these people are after (by "these people" I mean politicians). The senators ask stupid loaded questions, the subjects of the hearings are often either not willing to answer, or they are cut off. It's all a big bunch of shit!

Only SpaceX has low latency satellite communications. And its only possible because of how many satellites they have put up there. You cant reproduce their service with less sats.

When I put the X in the background, it appears as the Google Chrome logo. This shows that the developers are using the Chrome infrastructure. Maybe this was already known information. Anyway. In my opinion his programmers tricked him because X is 5-10 times slower compared to twitter. And he says we may have to pay a fee for this. Oh, I'm going to wait 10 seconds to open a page and do I have to pay for it; or charge for it?

Trump's social media platform still has not reached the desired level. Well, at least I couldn't find a place to download it. I want to get rid of this gold digger namely ELon and switch to Trump social media as soon as possible.

Thanks for the suggestion. Now I noticed it on google play and installed it. I will invite my friends on Twitter there too. I believe that we will communicate more safely and healthily. It's also a convenient meeting place for RPOTD. Oh, I don't trust Trump either too much, but he's clearly a saner person than mister Mask.

That exchange is in a thread about this video. They are saying that western Jewish people have been part of the "anti-whiteness" movement that has arisen over the past 10 years or so. I'm not saying they are right or wrong, but just that there is some context to what they posted.

I haven't read the entire conversation.  I've read it has to do with the Great Replacement conspiracy.

Whatever the case it doesn't look good.

But I think Elon has tried to make up for it by banning certain phrases like "from the river to the sea" on his free speech platform.

He's gone to Israel, I don't think he's worried about banning "from the river to the sea". The usual weirdos are losing their shit about him going to Israel, and watching the videos from Oct 7th.

I did not get "Great Replacement" vibes from the thread, well at least not from the normies posting in it. There are always groypers in that kind of thread, though.
