I was not surprised that Musk, who immediately removed the ban on my account, lifted Trump's ban. Of course, everyone waited their turn.

So we don't have to wait for the Playstore version of Truth Social. Divine justice has been served.

I gave up on getting $100 billion after that gesture. Still, there are still a few Nazi leftover scumbags out there waiting to be fired in Twitter. Elon will surely find them. I hope kicks their asses.

I prefer to have twitter stay up so we can take quicker action against the food crisis or other silly global scenarios. Now that I've written this, dude Elon will take it into account.

Here comes a new Twitter competitor: Post! From the former CEO of Waze.
https://9to5google.com/2022/11/20/post-waze-ceo/

Although I do have a little more hope for Jack Dorsey's project becoming the next big fish in the social media landscape. He made Twitter, he saw the challenges they needed to overcome, he has had a lot to say about its shortcomings, he's been critical of the work that he did there and vocal about the fact that there are things he wishes he had done differently with it earlier on. All that experience seems like it should be very helpful in building a better alternative to Twitter.

Just posting this because it's weird.  The more you look at it, the more uncomfortable you get.    Bit like Twitter itself.

This is interesting.  Musk won't reinstate Alex Jones because he's personally offended by him profiting off of the Sandy Hook massacre.

I can't really blame him.  That conspiracy theory is particularly vile.  Trump's conspiracy theories are also particularly vile but those don't personally offend Elon Musk.

Okay, but Twitter was losing millions before Elon took over.

Which begs the question: Why the fuck did he want to take over? Why pay an over inflated price? And why can't he STFU so as not make his primary source of revenue (advertisers) uneasy?

And how did he not foresee car companies pulling out given he owns and is a famous face of a rival car brand.

To all and sundry he's coming off as a major dickwad. I'm sure the reality of the $44 billion 'investment' is starting to sink in

Remember none of his workers need Twitter to succeed more than him. Being a major dickwad of a boss who clearly has no fucken idea of what he's doing or a comprehensible plan moving forward while Twitter loses even more money than before he took over is not doing him any favours

Good luck to him because luck is the only thing that will save his 'investment' at this point. I didn't spend a dollar for that steaming pile of shit so idgaf what happens

He hasn't said anything that should make advertisers uneasy. The people driving the advertisers away are the ones the most pissed that the sale went through. These advertisers don't have a problem placing ads alongside the most disgusting shit on the internet until someone points it out, and then only if the outrage kicks in.

The ones crying the most about the possibility of free speech on Twitter are the ones who have been controlling the narrative. The same people who made fun of people for objecting to being banned for expressing (sometimes completely normal) opinions, and saying it's a private company they can do what they want are the ones complaining the most that this private company is changing its rules. They only care about free speech when they're the ones allowed to have it.

I missed this post. You are so based.
I really do respect you.
Why would that be inciting terrorism?  Lorddave was merely describing a type of shop we have here in the US, a bomb-gun shop.  A shop that sells bomb-guns.

I find it wrong to criticize the behavior of Trump who has been tortured by Twitter for years and finally set up his own social platform under obligated conditions. From here, our opinion that Elon Musk is NPC3 gets stronger. Because a real whuman does not behave this way. Of course, so is Trump.

https://www.mediamatters.org/elon-musk/less-month-elon-musk-has-driven-away-half-twitters-top-100-advertisers
Quote
In recent weeks, 50 of the top 100 advertisers have either announced or seemingly stopped advertising on Twitter. These advertisers have accounted for nearly $2 billion in spending on the platform since 2020, and over $750 million in advertising in 2022 alone.

In addition to advertisers that have seemingly stopped all advertising on Twitter as of November 21, there are an additional seven advertisers which appear to be slowing the rate of their advertising on the platform to almost nothing. Since 2020, these seven advertisers have accounted for over $255 million in spending on Twitter, and nearly $118 million in advertising in 2022.

Let that sink in Elon!

I wonder why none of those journalists are reporting on Twitter finally deleting child sex abuse material? At least Newsweek gave Eliza Bleu an op-ed https://www.newsweek.com/while-blue-checks-whine-about-extremism-elon-musk-protecting-sexually-exploited-children-opinion-1761383

Archive https://archive.ph/AwHow

I also wonder how people on the left are suddenly in favor of monopolies (or duopolies) if it somehow harms Elon Musk. Google and Apple have too much control over the flow of information. They have the power to kill websites. I'm not going to cheer them on when they use their power against people I disagree with. They've already used it against people I do agree with (it happened on the fediverse in 2020). If someone besides Elon Musk had purchased Twitter, these same people would be happy that a stunt cost a pharmaceutical company to lose money on the stock market. These same people wouldn't be hoping for Google and Apple  to remove the Twitter app, and they never called for it to happen when they've known that Twitter was used for selling CSAM.

I am a big fan of decentralizing the internet. That's one of the reasons I still post on forums, it's the reason I joined the fedi, but the reaction to Elon Musk has made me want him to succeed. He is making the right people angry. They are showing their true colors, I just wish normies could see it for what it is.

In the same way people have freedom to say what they want, advertisers have freedom to choose where they advertise. Also, they are beholden to their customers wishes if they want value for their advertising dollar

If enough noise is made and its no longer profitable to advertise or associate yourself with a product or company, they can leave

Elons Blue tick subscription model idea made it precarious for companies to associate with Twitter

The expression 'this is why we cant have nice things' comes to mind. Because people will troll and do stupid shit

When the British opened naming their new research boat up to the internet to choose.... What do you think happened? We had 'Boaty McBoatface' get voted as the most popular and won.
https://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/22/world/europe/boaty-mcboatface-what-you-get-when-you-let-the-internet-decide.html

When Microsoft made a chatbot 'Tay' to interact with people on social media, they had to shut it down as people turned it into a racist Nazi within 24 hours
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/microsoft-shuts-down-ai-chatbot-after-it-turned-into-racist-nazi/

So now we have Twitter and Elons bright idea to make a blue tick that's associated with 'authenticity' to be available to anyone for $8. Honestly, what did he think was going to happen?

I had something, then changed it leaving the quote in place.

Also I have no feelings for Twitter or Elon and whether they succeed or fail. I also don't give a rats for pharma losing money. I'm pointing out it makes sense from their perspective that associating with Twitter is a bit precarious right now. Easy decision for them to walk especially as Twitter is not even a huge slice of any return on advertising investment.

And I got to thinking about Elon making his own phone - that will be easier said then done. Well having the phone made is the easy part. Just grab a bunch of off the shelf bits together. It's the software that will do him in. Unless Microsoft helps him out for a Windows phone, he'll need to design a new one from scratch. No existing apps will likely work on it as they weren't made for it. So every one of the thousands of apps that make the phone attractive would have to come on board for him

Phones live or die based on app support. It's why the Windows phone never got a foothold. So he can make the phone and he can even make his own software - but if apps and companies don't devote resources to making their apps compatible with it (and no reason why they would care for such a minuscule market), it will fail because no one's going to buy a phone with so few app support

He could build a phone that uses a fork of Android's open source code, team up with Jeff Bezos, and make the Twitter app available on Amazon. Amazon already has an app store, and their fire tv stuff already uses Android.

The beauty of it is anyone can use https://source.android.com/ because it is open source. Elon could  build a phone using it and there's nothing Google could do to stop him. Huawei uses Android, and has its own app store in China.

Or, he could have someone build a free and open source Twitter app and make it available on F-Droid.

Kind of.  A little bit more nuanced than true open source.

Quote

They could simply stop the phone using the Play Store, which most definitely isn't open.  Good luck selling phones with only Twitter on them.   Yeah, people can side load apps onto Android, but this will never have mass adoption. And good luck Twitter being the "global market square" when only a small subset of the population can access it.

All this, of course, ignores iPhones.

Yeah, these tech giants have way too much power, but not quite sure treating musk like the rebel alliance is the right way to go...
