The people who use 1984 as an instruction manual never want to talk about 1984.

I found "a brave new world" incredibly dry.

Seriously tho 1984 has never been more relevant.

My next question is - is this systematic fuck up partly to blame for the riots? I'm not excusing what they are doing, I don't think it's cool to burn shit down, or hurt people, or anything like that. What I am wondering is if this has been festering, and it is now boiling over? Even though there have been investigations and arrests, do the people feel like enough has been done?

I have friends and family who live in the UK. Once, a friend and some other Greek person I know we're literally just walking down the street, and some drunken Brits came out of a pub, heard them speaking in a language they didn't understand, saw that one of them was pretty dark skinned, and decided they were Bangladeshi. So, they followed them while shouting at them and harassing them, at which point some stranger realized what was going on, and put them in his car. The thugs got on their motorbikes and followed the car while shouting threats.

So I think it has a bit more with that sort of stuff happening in the UK.

I saw Pez at a grocery store in Greece yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

If you don't believe someone telling you about something drunken Brits did, then I suggest you go Ios or Laganas in Zakynthos or some other hotspot of drunken British tourists, park your car behind a club and count the seconds until someone climbs up your car and starts pissing.

I went to England myself, and a brit asked me what language I was speaking. I told him Greek, and he said he went to a Greek island last year. I asked him what it was called, and be said "I think Mythos". Mythos is not a Greek island, but it is a Greek beer brand.

As a Brit' I recognise these people, they are not us all but they exist, unfortunately they make a bigger splash than the quiet ones.

They're very easy to recognize in England.  The accent is a dead giveaway.

Surely. But there does exist a handful who behave like animals for some reason. I'm sure a lot of them were the same ones attacking random mosques and centers.
