Cold!
« on: January 28, 2019, 03:38:57 AM »
I live in the central part of the lower peninsula of Michigan.   It's 5 below F with a NE wind gusting over 10 miles per hour and I think it is starting to kick up judging by the sound outside.  I live in a drafty old farmhouse and my furnace broke down yesterday.  There is a major winter event bearing down on me.  It seems that every winter something like this happens and stresses me out.  I will spend the day trying to fix my furnace.  I think it is the motor for the secondary vent system; the one that feeds Oxygen to the flame and pushes the exhaust outside.
Ecclesiastes 2:15

Can't we send you a little of our 37°C max and 22°C min for a little of your unmentionable -5°F? A 14,530 km long heat-pipe should do it :).

You are ignoring Newtons Laws of thermodynamics. Your stupid pipedream would not do anything.

Be safe. Do not freeze.

I just came back from the mountains where it dropped into the teens at night, but was quite nice during the day.  We had snow Tuesday, and I'd forgotten exactly how much I hate shoveling snow. Our front yard always accumulates and retains the snow even after the neighbors' across the way have melted.  I'm sort of glad to be back where our overnight lows will be about the same as the highs up there this week.

Other places have an cool design in that their hot water run through the walls and under the ground in areas like driveways. This keeps the houses warm and the snow on the driveways constantly melted without having to do anything.

We had a nice snow storm yesterday.   The real cold is coming today.  I have no furnace but I am working on it.  We are using supplemental heating to get by.  Electricity is still working.

They are separate systems and are expensive to run.

Central heating for your driveway?  Fuck, that is some decadent shit.

Just walked my dog.  The poor critter was whimpering because his paws got so cold. She's alright now curled up on a cushion in front of a space heater.  I also gave her a cookie.

I am not lonely.  If anything I would like to be a little more reclusive than what I am.  I am okay!  64 yrs old and I can still shovel snow; I am in excellent physical health; mental and emotional maybe not so much.  Obviously I have  a few quirks but I am harmless; no criminal aggressiveness.   I have a wife, a dog and a cat.  I have friends.  I have picked up some music students so I am staying busy.  Once my furnace is fixed it will be smooth sailing.

I have had severe depression in the past.  I have forgiven those I need to forgive and I am moving on.  I seem to be getting happier as I get older.  Flat Earth, just the notion makes me happy for some reason.  For some reason it gives me hope for the future.

I am touched by your concern!  You surprise me!

I fixed my furnace.  The outlook is rosy.  I just spent the 4 coldest days I can ever remember and I have lived in Michigan for most of my life.   Thank You to those who showed concern!
