You do realize it's possible to see the curvature of the horizon from several large skyscrapers in the world?
And skyscrapers are tourist attractions, so you cannot call the traditional
"conspiracy" thing on this.

We won't; atmospheric distortion and limits of the human eye void your argument.

I don't see a curve. And I am an RE by choice.

Visible curvature is not apparent until 40,000 feet altitude. Such altitude is reserved for military craft.

I saw distortions in the horizon, but I then reminded myself that the Earth is not a uniformly flat disc.

Right, that's why commercial airliners, and personal Jets fly at that altitude.

Plus that could be easily caused by the curvature of the lense of the camera that took the photo too.

If you really want it, why don't you take a photo of the ocean with a hi-res digital camera, and then stretch it out enough that enough so that it is possible to see the curvature.
Someone try it. And make sure to get a wide spread as well. :!:

I could take a photo of the ocean and make it curved in photoshop if you want, but I don't think that really proves anything.

You're missing the point. I'm not adding a curve, I'm merely accentuating an already existing one.

Keyword phrase?  The Earth is not a uniformly flat disc.

Err, guys, sea level is uniform.

Water naturally looks for the lowest possible location, and any fluctuation, like those caused by waves or other disturbances, would almost definitely not be visible, even with making the Earth's curvature noticeable

That photograph was quite obviously taken with a fish eye lens, and shows about 180º of visibility. Any lens with that much visibility distorts things quite a lot: notice how you see the right corner of the buildings on the left half, but the left corner of the buildings on the right half of the photo? The apparent curvature of the horizon is for exactly the same reason.

To actually see the curve of the horizon with the naked eye, you need to be about 40-60,000 feet up in the air, as has been previously mentioned.

its no use arguing with them... any photos of curvature are "photoshopped" and the rest is all "distortion" or plain old conspiracy.
