God knows, to be honest last time I drank it I was in Skiathos, a few years back, the Barman was plying us with it but asked us to be quiet about how much he was charging, as there was a party of Germans there and he was charging them double as they had apparently bombed the shit out of the place during the war.

We were there for two weeks and drank a lot, but the bottles were all in Greek and to be honest between that and the Retsina all I remember was it was lovely.

Lol typical Greek excuse to charge you double the money! He was probably charging you double what he was charging Greek people too... Metaxa is not the best ouzo but I think it's pretty good.

Ooooooh now I understand what you're talking about! I forgot there's also a different drink named Metaxa. The Metaxa brand also makes ouzo and it's pretty good. Now very few people here drink Metaxa (lots of people used to though, it's out of fashion here), but a LOT of people drink Metaxa ouzo, and by "Metaxa" I usually understand the second.

A couple of old guys came across, with some fresh figs and a bottle of the stuff and just sat down with us, fed us with the best figs I have ever tasted and insisted we drink with them, which was really nice, except the stuff was vile.

Ardbeg Laphroaig would be a great name.

I never liked figs... Which is a shame, because Greece has great figs.
