Nobel prize in physics laureate's weird video

Gerard Mourou won (along with 3 other people) this year's Nobel Prize in Physics. But now people found out about a pretty cringey video he made a few years ago, and some people are saying it's sexist, or inappropriate, or something along those lines:

I don't really think the video is damaging or anything, it's just cringe worthy, but I don't think the fact he won a Nobel prize is a justification for anything he might do. Nobel prize winners do stupid or bad stuff too.

I made it one minute in, and couldn't see any reason to keep going. I found it incredibly offensive. Mostly to my ears, but also to my eyes. What kind of sicko makes a video like that and just puts it out into the world where other people might accidentally watch it?? It was sooooo bad. Bad bad bad. Not "so bad it becomes funny again," but worse than that.

To be clear: it's not offensive because it might make some subset of people feel marginalized based on what I saw. It's offensive to all of my senses involved in experiencing the video.

I did find it kinda funny because of how embarassing it was.

Btw if you really only watched one minute, watch the rest. It gets even more embarassing.

I think his Nobel prize worthiness should be evaluated based on his work and not on the video.

Perhaps if someone explained what the video was supposed to be saying I would change my mind, but as it stands I agree that it is very stupid and any human being should be embarrassed to have created and published it.

Not even the people offended by it are claiming they should strip him off his Nobel. I think they are right to criticize him and this whole culture, and it does play into stereotypes and mindsets that many people have an issue with so I don't think it's bad to call put these things, and especially when they come from high profile professors in a video supposed to promote science. But, on the other hand, I don't think he's necessarily sexist for making that. I think it's just an old man who doesn't understand certain things about people trying to make a joke that fell flat on its face. I also worry about some people taking things to the other extreme and turning puritan. But in this case it's probably kinda justified, especially due to the nature of the video (supposed to promote science etc).

Nobel prize only goes to artists so called scientists. So that this is the result what I predicted. I'm waiting next prize for Elon Musk with his marihuanas.

The Nobel Prize goes to someone who does ground breaking work. Something you and other FEers will never do.
