Medicane hurricane has arrived Greece! Turkey is in line!

We have started to feel weather difference in Turkey, from far distance.

Weather reports forecast it affect Greece Friday, an the Turkey at weekend.

There is no any report of Turkish near history about such as hurricanes.

I hope fat Greek is fine.

I hope it loses its impact.

Well, unless you live in an island or somewhere prone to flooding these things are not a big deal here. We never get really powerful hurricanes like the ones you get in the US since they just can't form in the Mediterranean. Also even if we did, the houses are built much stronger than the ones in some places in the US (all the houses are made of bricks/concrete) and so we wouldn't have as many damages due to the wind. Of course floods are a different issue, although even the floods aren't as big an issue in most places, since Greece is very mountainous and so major floods aren't as common. The only annoying thing is the power outages.

Glad to see you. Electricity problem is a general problem in hurricanes. It has not arrived its greatest power yet. Or maybe you are far to center. Friday ie tomorrow and saturday is danger for Greece. Sunday and monday it will arrive to Izmir and around. Normally  it will not come to Istanbul bu even so I'm planning to get my car a closed carpark. I recommend you consider the risks. Perhaps a danger will not be happen but it is a great risk that we have to consider it.

My home is in a high building so that I have ignored the risk of flying objects. Can it be some flying objects in 50 metres altitude?

Depends on the object, but yes objects could be lifted into the air to that altitude.

For Hurricane Classification, yes a CAT1 is the lowest category; however, it can become weaker and be classified as a Tropical Storm or even lower a Tropical Depression.  Both of which can still cause significant damage, injuries, and result in loss of life.  Water and Wind are no joke.  Water is the most destructive force in nature.

I find it pretty funny that people think I was ever in some sort of danger. It's just another case of media exaggeration. It's just mildly bad weather. And we've had much worse this year. But it's a hurricane and hurricanes sound scary so people got scared.

Well, hurricanes are bad news for most when they hit, even category 1 hurricanes. Plus there are tornadoes that sometimes happen with the hurricanes. When they say a hurricane is heading my way, I'm usually more worried about tornadoes, except last year when Irma hit us. Florida is mostly flat so there aren't any mountains to slow the wind down.

Yes, the issue with Hurricanes or even severe rain storms is when people live in a floodplain or live at sea level near rivers, lakes, ocean, etc. . If you are on adequate elevation, the worry is significantly decreased and the concern turns to mudslides (depending on what is near you), power outages, falling trees/debris.

As I said, it's only an issue if you live in an island, and even then, islands are usually very mountainous and there are rarely any significant damages. The infrastructure and geography is quite a bit different than those places where there are lots of damages. Of course, it causes a lot of problems for seaside stores and for crops. But that's usually the worst of it.

That's the awesome thing about living in Greece, everything is at an elevation, and flat land is surrounded by mountains so wind is not a concern there either. But floods are, we did have a few really bad floods lately.

Best of luck, my Mediterranean friends.  My storm has been gone for more than a week, and we still have people with no electricity and flooded rivers and creeks around my house and I still have not finished picking crap up from the backyard. 

Sounds like this is category 1 huricane is not so strong. It has started to decrease its energy in Greece. And south of Turkey is in the line. After discussings, I think Saint Joshua has exerted his authority and directed the hurricane through south, far to Istanbul.

Sounds like there is almost no risk for me after now. pezevenk is already does not a threatening except power failure.

I don't know.  I can only assume that they think the other people still live here.  I know I sound paranoid, and you probably think I am crazy, but there has been f-ed up things going on here since the shooting.
