I did not know that the powers that be, have other motives besides money driven,  more power and a dumbed down majority who fail to see how they are screwed day after day.
Just when did this conspiracy to hide the true shape of the earth start?
How could any money be made from hiding the shape of the earth centuries ago?

I'd like to expand on rabinoz's question:

How does misrepresenting the shape of the Earth make money for anyone, then or now? What did Eratosthenes gain by claiming the Earth is round? What did Galileo gain, other than being put under house arrest by the Catholic Church and threatened with torture? What does France gain by claiming the Earth is round? NASA gets funding from Congress, but what do the Congresscritters get?

I visited Australia. Where's my check from the government for saying that Australia is real?

If Flat Earth was common knowledge, how successful would TV shows like Star Trek/Wars/Gate, all the movies and computer games like Mass Effect be? Lots of money is made through the entertainment industry by peddling a globe Earth and universe.

We already have enough 'suspension of disbelief' to contend with when watching these shows... But a globular shaped planet and this..... GRAVITY thing? TOO MUCH if we knew our world was ultimately flat

I'm not sure I'm following. If FE was common knowledge these entertainment vehicles would seemingly be just as successful. Imagery might be different, but it's not like the success or failure of these is predicated on the shape of the earth.
No. That sudden lurch forwards is the atmospheric slosh effect.

Replying late because I'm just back from a month away.

A flat Earth is no obstacle to science fiction. Few people, if any, believe in vampires, yet Buffy was enormously successful, and there's a whole genre of urban fantasy with vampires and werewolves etc. Terry Prachett's Discworld series is very popular even among round-Earthers.

And in any case, it is not credible that thousands of years of a round-Earth conspiracy were motivated by the anticipation of making money in the late 20th century from sci-fi TV shows.

Nobody has yet offered a credible motive for the conspiracy in this thread, or anywhere else that I've seen.
