In the STO game, Data's matrix took over B4's body, essentially reviving Data and allowing him to live on.
I never cared for this. B4 was like Data's mentally handicapped brother. He was sentient, even if primitive. But what do they do with that spark of life? Completely extinguish it. Destroy B4's mind and replace it with a more likeable character whose death was completely superfluous in the first place.
B4 was a living being. His life should have been respected. Instead, he's completely erased just because his mind wasn't sophisticated enough. This is a very non-Trek thing to do.
Because all writing sucks, they try to sweep away the moral problems by saying that B4 did this willingly, and that it was all within B4's responsibility to have himself overwritten by Data's android soul. But that's complete baloney. I think every episode of Trek that mentions suicide takes the opposite moral approach.
The fact is, Nemesis was a mess, and cannon would be better without it. Now the writers are forced to accept unethical positions in order to restore the storyline. Terrible.
But anyway I hope the new show is good. Can't be worse than Discovery, can it?
