"easy" way to see if the earth really is flat or not
« on: July 19, 2018, 04:46:21 AM »
It requires at least 1 well known hardcore flat earth believer (probably one of the guys who was arguing flat earth on the panel at flat earth convention birmingham), £200,000 and a ticket on virgin galactic.

now then if your up there and cannot see every single continent, the earth is not flat. job done. no doubt there will be some photoshopping but i guarantee other people that have already reserved tickets will be taking there own photos so im afraid there will be conflicting evidence

Start a kickstarter/gofundme but you will all have to agree whose going up there because if a lot of the hard core flat earthers want to go none of you will go cus the funds will be to dispersed to ever hit 200k per person

If you want to a kickstarter for one of the guys on the panel you will need to talk to them about it.
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

And you think there's 100% chance that a passenger on this "trip" will agree with your assessment about what is happening to him, what he is "seeing," and report with 100% the events, interpretations, and conclusions that you assume?

That's adorable.

no of course not. im expecting them to say theyve been drugged, put in a simulator shown a fake world, put back to sleep and got woken up on the air field or something like that

well its alot easier than becoming an astronaut. Think this must be the first time in history that a member of the general public can just about go into space. its supposed to go 6.2 miles up just past the karmen line which is apparently where our atmosphere ends and outer space begins but i personally believe that even if someone had the money or was given the money a true flat earth believer, someone who has unshakeable faith, someone who will not even consider that the earth is a sphere anymore and has locked his mind away from the possibility (which happens in religion mostly, that type of believer) will never go on that flight as it'll instantly shatter his/her belief.

He/she cant even make up any excuse for it because if you cant see every continent from there the earth isnt flat and theres no excuses he/she could possibly come up with like oh the windows were round which distorts your view and make it circular.... ok say that happened but they arent david blaine windows that can hide half a planet.

That is the easiest way to actually see for your own eyes for a normal member of the public, whenever he gets it off the ground. give it 10 years after the initial launch and the ticket price might drop to a manageable £10,000 a person when the tech behind it advances then what happen to the flat earth theory then?? there wont be a single believer left in the world

So you pay all that money to only go 1/4 as high as the IFS (International Fake Station)

Hate to break it to you but at just over 110km high, you will only see ~1200km.  Not very far at all! From Canberra, I may see rabinoz's house near Brisbane but that's about it. I wouldn;t expect to see the entire world below me.

Even if you went to the height of the IFS at 408km, you will only see as far as 2317km. Not enough to see end to end of many continents!

Your test is a joke and an expensive one at that.

it is if theres no curvature to the planet. youll be able to see really far. just another excuse from you guys. you could try take a telescope with you point it out the window, can see even further if thats your main issue!!

This is the second time that you have said this trip would allow you to see every single continent, so I'll assume that wasn't just a slip of the tongue and that is what you actually believe.

"Simple" solution proponents often don't spend any time considering even the most basic ramifications of their idea.

At any one instant, a portion of the world is illuminated by the sun and a portion is not and is in darkness. Would you care to explain how during the short duration of the Virgin Galactic up-and-down trip anyone can see the continents that are in darkness? Let alone how you would recognize them at such an oblique angle? And I guess there would have to be absolutely no cloud cover anywhere on earth, cause you know, those clouds can be pesky when it comes to seeing land.

"Just get in a rocket" doesn't cut it. Sorry.

Considering the success of their recent test launch, my bet is that Blue Origin will be launching paying customers before Virgin Galactic.

Are those distances what FET predicts or what RET predicts?  It seems to me that FET should predict that you can see much, much further at 100km height than RET would (you know, because of the curvature and all).

I don't know why everyone is so stuck on the whole "send me up in a rocket" thing... Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic... whatever. If you want to see the curvature of the Earth with your own eyes, just go see it:
https://www.migflug.com/en/jet-fighter-flights/flying-with-a-jet/mig-29-edge-of-space.html
Available right now! No excuses. ... ok maybe 17,500 euro is a pretty good excuse... but if you start a kickstarter, I'll chip in.

Because "just use a laser" "just use a rocket" "just dig a tunnel pointing down 5 degrees unti you come out the other side" is the level of sophistication of thinking of most people.

And most of the "just so" methods either give no definitive answers or can't be done.

the sun is a big ball of fire, it is not a directional light so if the world is flat the whole earth would be lit up if not none of it would be. plain and simple. just get a coin and tilt it. that simulates a flat earth earth perfectly. it would have to spin away but then the whole planet would be covered in darkness

ok  cloud cover hahahah. point is youd be able to see the entire planet on a flat earth, cus its flat. youd be able to see the antarctic ice wall surrounding the whole thing etc etc pretty easy to disprove

you know what im actually contradicting a few things im trying to live my life by at the moment to make it happier by arguing this point. one thing is, its other peoples lives let them do and think whatever they want as long as it isnt directly hurting someone elses life by beating them up, for example, or things like that

so if it makes you happy and brings more meaning to your life thinking the earth is flat and all that stuff go for it.
