The Fall-Flat Fallacy

MrDebunk presents

THE FALL-FLAT FALLACY
A small window into the flat earther psyche

The scientific method, and before that, scientific experimentation in general, is to observe something, hypothesize what is happening, then experiment, and collect all the observations into a conclusion. A theory is formed from observations. This is how we know many things about the world we live in.

The flat earth theory, being incredibly false, naturally has many holes in it. Flat earthers are constantly patching these holes with workarounds which are just that. Workarounds. That is forming observations from a theory, which means it is not an observation, just an easy exit from a tough argument. These are never truly observed to be true, and may as well have huge holes by themselves.

Flat-earthers are flat-earthers for one reason: they barely know anything about the round earth model (a.k.a. reality). When they discover the flat-earth, they eat up all the "proofs" out there and now believe the Earth is flat and the government is covering it up. One thing that often reveals itself is a lack of understanding of simple physical concepts by flat earthers, as evident when they try to debunk the round earth. Sometimes their errors are in the more complex sense, other times they completely fall flat. Their mind usually is too tainted to understand more than a basic level, but it can be done.

Hence, my coinage of the term "Fall-Flat Fallacy." (FFF)

Don't believe FFF is a legitimate thing?
Here are some examples of cheap workarounds created by flat earthers.

Sun and moon rising and setting?

A complex system of the sun and moon
orbiting something, while the Earth
orbits nothing. Where is the object it
is supposed to orbit around?

Sun rises and sets due to "perspective",
which is usually not elaborated beyond
that.

The four seasons?

A 13-minute video that is for "demonstration
purposes only", and uses a complex animation
instead of 22-degree axis tilt and Earth's orbit.

The edge of the Earth?

It is usually believed an "ice wall" surrounds a flat
Earth (normally called Antarctica), and that it is
heavily guarded. There is no proof for either. No
actual images, nothing.

Gravity?

A common belief is that a flat earth is accelerated
upward 9.87 m/s^2 by a mythical force called
"universal acceleration". Not only is there no
proof of this, but this "universal acceleration"
would break the first law of thermodynamics.

Eclipses?

A solar eclipse would probably still be
just the Moon in front of the Sun.
A lunar eclipse is described as being
done by a "shadow object", which not
only has no proof of existing, but is
not supposed to be visible. Easily the
most ridiculous of the excuses.

Boats going under the horizon?

Again, the excuses of "perspective" and maybe even
"waves" are the most prevalent on this one. No real
argument, just an excuse or a shallow "debunk".

There are various other things that I could cover here, but I probably could not bother to do so. This shall be a debate, this post is only the start.

Flat Earther Special Edition of the scientific method:
1. Discover an observation from a round-earther that seems to be a total nail-in-the-coffin to the Flat Earth theory.
2. Wait and think about what they just said.
3. Make a claim that would be used as a lazy exit from the apparent end of the Flat Earth theory.
4. Dance around Occam's razor like a retarded octopus, but never even sense its presence while you abuse your claim all around the Internet.

Very solid, well written response. Unfortunately, I doubt you will get many responses, because flat earthers logically CAN NOT refute anything in here. It's apparent from just reading this you know more and have done more research and scientific reasoning behind this than they have.

FEers have the advantage of a combined knowledge of both FET and RET.  Our exposure to theories now possessed by round Earth believers makes claims of a flat Earth-shape perspective even more aligned with reality since we can differentiate between truthful evidence and wishful theories.

The deeper REers look into the Earth shape dilemma, the closer they will also come to flat Earth shape realization.

There is no "Earth shape dilemma" so there isn't the slightest chance that "they will also come to flat Earth shape realization".

Of course, if you disagree, you could either present your case for a flat earth and show us all the accurate flat earth maps that you claim exist.

But you never do because there is no case and there are no "accurate flat earth maps".

Only a small bit of round earth reality is taught in schools. If you are a flat earther who managed to listen in science class, good job. There are various oversimplifications of scale when it comes to the scale of the Solar System.

This is the real distance (and size of) between the Earth and the Moon (to scale). Usually you only hear the metric 238,900 miles, but this image is the distance to scale. Same with Sun and the Earth. Usually they appear very close in posters and graphics for a reason, even though the Earth is 93 million miles away from the Sun. That reason is scale.

The true scale of the Solar System is so enormous that usually the planets are simply lined up like this or even like this on posters in classrooms. A better look at the scale would be this website called "If the Moon Were Only 1 Pixel". Even though it's at a scale of about 397,649,496,100:1 on my monitor, it still takes some time to scroll through the whole thing.

Ever seen a Flat Earther try debunking something about the Round Earther? Ever seen a Flat Earther succeed in trying?

There is no such thing as a "Theory" in Flat Earth "FET".

FEers have the advantage of a combined knowledge of both FET and RET.
FET is not a theory, it lacks a fundamental property of a theory which is predictive capabilities.
FEers have the advantage of being able to claim 'fake', 'cgi', 'conspiracy' to anything they don't like.

Our exposure to theories now possessed by round Earth believers makes claims of a flat Earth-shape perspective even more aligned with reality since we can differentiate between truthful evidence and wishful theories.
Not really, FEers (especially those commenting on youtube videos) generally tend to believe anything thrown at them, when they believe it helps the case of a flat earth, yet discards it the moment it shows proof of a round earth. Besides, FE perspective is a joke, with no way to calculate, simulate or measure it, only created because normal perspective easily proves the round earth in many ways, even though it is strictly based on straight lines.

The deeper REers look into the Earth shape dilemma, the closer they will also come to flat Earth shape realization.
I've looked very very deep, into all the theories, and there are gaping holes in all of them. You can't even make a map which can explain flight-times. You switch between mono-pole-model and bi-polar-model to explain certain phenomenons and those maps are extremely flawed in so many ways.

Basically put, we can easily see the earth is spherical from satellite photos. We ignore it because you accuse space agencies of the conspiracy.
We can see curvature from high altitude (30km) videos, you blame the camera lens.
We can use all the observations in the sky to prove it, you reject it and say we should look at earth to determine earths shape.
We can calculate and see objects disappear behind the horizon as a spherical earth predicts, you call that a property of perspective you can't define.
We show through multiple different experiments that gravity acts as predicted on a spinning planet, you add those experiments and measurements as properties of celestial gravity you can't define.

Meanwhile you make claims about the globe earth that you believe we should see and dont, yet time and time again those claims have been very easily explained using logic, reasoning, experiments and observations.
