Are there too many mods here?

I guess you never played a game called Prison. In that game if you have too many cops they end up harassing the prisoners.

Who harassed you?

A prisoner is someone being held against their will.

The active staff is currently 1 admin, 3 mods 2 curators and about half a dozen shadow mods. I don't know exactly what the shadow mods do because none of them have ever actually spoke to me.

So 6 people keeping law and order currently.  I guess technically it's my job since I'm an agent of the deep state but I'm also very lazy.
But this isn't anyone's day job so you've got maybe a couple at any given time. There's also a gap during the night where we're all probably asleep at the same time.

But even if you had a mod that was somehow available 24/7 you'd still want several mods anyways just because, and this isn't obvious, we actually discuss potential problems and the actions we take.

I am wondering why Hamzilla thinks that Prison is a game.  Is that your way of coping?  Real humans who have actually been to prison would probably slap you across the face, tell you to man the fuck up, and then have their way with you.

That's a political forum. Those discussions tend to be rather bland and reasonable with very little drama. It's not a valid comparison.

Also I don't want to name names but we've had a substantial increase in inane questions in s&c that requires extra staffing.

Because this is one of those forums where there can pretty regularly be an influx of new users that only really stick around for a handful of posts, and don't bother to learn the rules, meaning there's substantially more than twelve users to keep an eye on. To say nothing of the longer-term users that apparently never learned how to behave.

To solve this issue, I would suggest to delete both jroa and space cow girl.

Also, this one here ^ doesn't do any proper moderation. His job is goading people into making a misstep so he can exercise his power, which he is drunk on.
