What did christ give us?
« on: January 21, 2018, 12:32:43 AM »
Did he give us a body of mythology, where he curses fruit?

Or is it a bit more that. Did he, or whatever it was, did Christ give us forgiveness?

He gave BHS the gift of jealousy, but not the one of being calm and respectful.

How do you account for the bargaining of Abraham in the final outcome of the residents of Sodom and Gomorrah?

Abraham was not a high priest.

Or Nebuchadnezzar?

There was no intercession of any high priest on his behalf.

He bargained as a human would for a fellow human. Or how I would for a sibling to a parent....even if that sibling were clearly in the wrong, I would still bargain for their better behalf.

I certainly did not say Abraham was a high priest as he was not.

So, the possibility of forgiveness did exist absent a high priest and pre-NT...

If you are talking pre new Testament law then yes it did.

However, you needed a high priest and sacrifice.

After the death of Yehoshua (Christ), this was no longer needed. This is why Yahweh destroyed the temple after His sacrifice.

Well, the story reads as if Yahweh was going to let the citizenry of Sodom and Gomorrah off the hook (an act of forgiveness) without the accompanying high priest or sacrifice.

This was pre-New Testament.

Same with Nebuchadnezzar....

Yahweh returned him to his right mind without the intercession of a high priest or the act of a blood sacrifice, if I remember the story correctly...

Or am I wrong.

Addressing one at a time...Sodom and Gomorrah, He was not going to forgive them, He agreed to not destroy the city if Abraham found innocent people...it started at fifty and kept going down, Yahweh agreed every time (it was obvious He knew there were none)...

Random fun fact, the 5 cities were recently discovered right where the Bible said they should have been (just slightly buried which is why they were missed originally). Two had remnants of ash on them (of course science says underground volcanic activity)...this was something people called a lie from the Bible for many centuries.

What do you understand in 'micro evolution', only phenotype differences, or also genotype (mutations) difference?
Where is the boarder between micro and macro evolution?
Do you think anatomical anomalies can be caused through micro evolution?

Nice answer ::)

You stated without any supporting argument or evidence whatsoever,  the looney fringe idea that there the proof for macroevolution doesn't exist.

I replied the same way.

You can argue your case by explaining what you think the differences are between microevolution and macroevolution.

I'll get the popcorn.

If you want to debate evolution let's do it in another thread and not detail this one.

I don't think there is any aspect of the evolution debate that I haven't already done to death in real life.

A guy who worked for me years ago,  an electronics engineering graduate,  was a happy clapper,  nice kid,  smart as a whip.  But was convinced by the Young Earth Creationist arguments that the earth was only 6000 years old.

Just because you have a functioning brain, doesn't mean you can be skeptical when religious beliefs are involved.

In the end I stopped trying to convince him of the age of the earth,  I realized that I was just being arrogant to try and tell him what he should believe.

If he chose to believe the literal interpretation of the bible,  that's his choice.

So,  no, I won't argue with you on creationism,  I just choose to believe the evidence instead.  The world/universe is an incredible enough place without having to invent gods.

You go ahead and believe what you want.

What?

Not sure how there is a misunderstanding there
The suggestion seems to be that Christ gave us "forgiveness" - so that in effect "forgiveness" didn't exist as a human state of being before 2000 years ago.  Which I find a very silly, and easily refuted, suggestion.  I was just trying to confirm this is what was being stated.

I'm only aware of one settlement that has been definitively associated with the Old Testament locations:
