New Job

Wee!

I'll be starting in my new position as Senior SaaS Software Developer in the next couple of weeks. It's work from home, a raise, and a slightly better title; so you might be seeing more of me around here. I still am going through an interview process with a larger company, so if that goes through I may ditch the work from home, but still pretty excited.

I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

It never does, thank god.  It would be career suicide.

Why don't you go on Antarctic expedition?

Good things happen to good people.

Plus work-at-home means you can sexually harass your wife and not have to answer to HR.   ;)

I attempted travel there some years ago, and was turned away due to 'weather.'

Maybe you should try again? Or did you just pick a time in the middle of winter when you know you would be turned down

This is of course, one pathway to get there. There are several

Nice!  I would love to work from home...kinda jealous.

Good luck.

I must say, it has it advantages, but also disadvantages.
Me, personally...I cannot work from home because of various distractions.
also meetings over phone and skype is an issue. I rather sit in a room with other colleagues and discuss stuff...
I can go to the production hall and do some testing on equipment
It makes work a lot more fun.

another disadvantage is that when you work from home you tend to work much longer.

thanks, but no thanks...

I have no kids in the house and my wife works so I’d be alone.  I would need face to face with colleagues too so I wouldn’t telecommute every day but it would be nice to a couple of distraction free days to crunch numbers once in while.

The big problem is I work for a defense contractor so given what I do there’s no way to telecommute.  Not to mention our firewall wouldn’t allow it.  That thing has been solid as a rock so far.

I have to admit I'm worried about the level of distractions due to family, but they have given me an office in a building away from home as well, so I can go in if I want. It sounds like the development team is so spread out though, that there's no hope to avoid remote meetings.

Working extra really isn't that bad for me, as I tend to do that anyways when left to my own devices. I suppose I should make sure to track it well to avoid it anyways.
