Laser Idea - What do you think?

OK, I just thought of this and was wondering if it would work, it probably has been thought of before and maybe even executed.
I would say it'd have to be done on the coast since land is not level.
You know how a laser pointer shoots a straight line of light?? Set one up at a certain a sea level (keeping it level) and go to an island somewhere else miles away and rig up a way to catch that laser beam and the same sea level. It would have to be far enough to be below the horizon on a globed earth..
The way I'm thinking is since the laser shoots a straight beam, you would have to be able to see the beam if the earth was flat.
Of course I don't know what type of laser it would take, if you can even have one that powerful or have permits, I don't know. I wouldn't even know how to begin to set something up for it to work (if it would).

So, what's your thoughts? Would something like this work? Would the beam bend around globed earth?

?

You don't need any special laser, a theodolite or a dumpy level will work and you can rent one for cheap.

Flatters will of course dismiss your test with the magical bendy light "proof".

We used to do this experiment as kids.

Its not so easy as you think. Go and read https://www.metabunk.org/lake-balaton-laser-experiment-to-determine-the-curvature-of-the-earth-if-any.t7780/ for example.
Read just a tad of it, I will read more when I have time. Thanks.

Well, after looking a the post above, that idea doesn't look like a very good one. I don't remember doing any kind of experiments like that as a kid? Thanks for the reply.

My father surveyed and he did this experiment with me after I told him that the oil rig we were gonna fish beside was 'just over the hill".

Anyhow it's a simple experiment that proves the earth can't be flat  You would have to repeat experiment 90° from first one to prove a globe shape and not a cylinder.

A dumpy level will work but you can use a theodolite and determine angles and distances to the horizon for different elevations and get a better picture.

Bottom line the earth is not flat and this is just one of the many proofs that Flatters ignore or try to discredit  by writing their own laws of physics.
