That doesn't look Kansas "flatter than a pancake" to me.

That doesn't look Kansas flat to me.

If you have less elevation/hills/moutains you'd need more distance (=plane further away), a lower difference in height between the two persons and/or a lower flying plane to achieve the same result.

Still, the concept would work if there is some elevation.

Of course, if the observer's height is > than the highest elevation, the plane would not ever disappear (except due to optical limits) unless the plane flies lower than the highest elevation.

Nothing to do with perspective and when the plane flies over the horizon it cannot be seen.

When the plane flies over the horizon it cannot be seen. Agree?

The elevation question specifically mentions flat terrain, not hilly terrain.  Hills introduce an artificial horizon that skew the perspective argument.  Basically, if the perspective explanation doesn't work for flat and level terrain, then it doesn't work at all.

@inquisitive: yes I agree

@markjo:
You can sure give an example of a totally flat plane where you have conducted the plane experiment and found it did still work, right?

It isn't my claim that it works at all.

@User324
I think everyone is asking you how the horizon works on something like the ocean where it is flat enough that "terrain" isn't a factor.
So how about it?

The earth is obviously not flat.

I was just pointing out that the plane "proof" sucks.
I have never seen a plane vanish behind the horizon over the ocean; they simply vanish before you could observe that.

As the title suggests, I'm an A Level physics student and I'm here for anyone that believe in flat earth theory to answer any questions they have and hopefully convince you that the earth is indeed round, which has been theorised for thousands of years and proven for the last four hundred years.

Ask me anything, and please try and explain using EVIDENCE why you believe the earth is flat.
I am not sure I have a question.

Kansas is flatter than a pancake.

I look out my window and I see that the Earth is clearly flat.

No matter where I have traveled on this Earth, often changing positions by hundreds of miles per day and thousands of miles per week, the Earth surrounding me has always appeared flat.

Thanks for posting.

I am from Texas - and it is FLAT with a capital "F".  I look off my property and I can see flatness everywhere.  Not even a hill in sight.  Very few trees to block the view.  I love it.  NOW, when I go on top of a grain elevator (I have a friend who works there and lets me go up there) - I can see the next town over.  This is something I could not do when I was on the ground.  I couldn't even see the next town with the most powerful telescope... do you know why?  Because the next town over is over the horizon from the ground view point.  Once I get on top of the grain elevator, the horizon extends.  This could only happen on a globe.  If the earth was flat, I should be able to see the next town over.  Heck, I should be able to see the next 10 towns over.

But the Earth is flat.

And there is an explanation as to why you cant see the town over.

But youre probably too stubborn to find out what it is.

And you call me a lunatic if I tried to explain it to you.

That ok, you remind me of myself a few years ago.

Please elaborate on your theory on why you would not be able to see the next town.. I would also like to know why you believe that this conspiracy holds any value. Why would people want you to think the earth is flat? There is no reason for this.
[/quote]

I never said I believed the earth was flat... I said "I am from Texas - and it is FLAT with a capital "F"" As in there are no hills.  This was a primer as to why I know the earth is ROUND.  Please re-read my initial response.
