Wiki?

In reading a lot of these threads, there is a lot of comments pointing to the Wiki to get questions answered.  The Wiki is still hacked and for new members, we can't go to this repository of information.  Do you have a backup of the Wiki, or IT people who can help you get it back on line?

Thank.  I found where someone had posted the same thing and was able to find it.  Can someone just change the front page of the website to point to that URL instead?

why? because it is like a dead weight on FE-legs which pulls down every FE-argument?

Most of the arguments are out of date, some are patently wrong. The goal is to replace all wiki content with new front page content on similar subject matter.

If you need any DE material, I'm happy to provide it.

It might be better to develop a system that encourages user input, no one person should be expected to outline all the details of the wide variety of FE models. (It'd be nice for the FAQ to be entirely wiki/wiki-equivalent based too, given how many newcomers assume that's the only model).

Ask Intikam, he has lots of pictures and answers to just about everything one could ask for relating to a flat earth. He is also one of FE's most staunch supporters. I bet he could do a much more legible wiki than what this place currently has!

 Maybe someone may incorporate some Intikam's ideas to the current wiki but the post you referred to does not qualify to replace wiki.

John's job is not to jump every time one of you noobs yells at him.  If you think you can do a better job with the wiki, then  draw up a proposal.  We have dozens of people who have the title of "Editor", yet what we have is the best we have come up with as of yet.

By the way, the whole idea for the wiki and the FAQ was so that we woulld not be asked the same questions, some times even on the same day, over and over and over.  Yet, we still get asked the same questions over and over and over; often by permanoobs who have received answers in the past, yet still ask why no one has ever taken a picture of the "edge" or the "ice wall" or demanding proof of the "conspiracy." 

You people come here demanding this and that, as if our soul purpose in life is to appease you.  There are millions of other forums on the inernet, yet you choose to be here and then demand that we bend over backwards for your every want and desire.  You remind me of liberals who don't prepare for a disaster and then show up on CNN when one happends complaining that the government did not do enough to protect you.

Sure, use Intikam  Even if you don't like him, his work could be a useful 'stop-gap' measure until you guys get sorted. At least then a wiki could be drafted by somebody who actually believes in the flat earth. Since none of you guys are invested in it, it shows in your wiki.

Dozens of people.... And that wiki is the best that you can come up with. Hardly says much for the collective intelligence of Flat Earthers..... Unless that is your plan....

I think the problem is where your wiki is located. It's embedded on a 'homepage' no one goes to. Maybe you can add a link within the forum page? Like where is says 'Home, Help, My Messages' etc. Add one that says 'Wiki' and I bet it would get more visits. You also have a brief of it within one of the stickies in the Q&A section but I'd be surprised if anyone actually goes there.

You took the role of being a moderator/editor/a guy who has the power to get shit done job so you needn't whinge when people ask for shit. Throughout my various jobs, people would go up or ring up asking stupid shit all the time. Doesn't matter if I'm not even the right person to ask - you deal with them courteously. Shortly is a relative term. I do my best to balance the needs of the society with the wont of the forum.

When you are manning the guns against the most oppressive ideologies in the world for the most important society in the universe, you must judge needs against time.

The reason that the current wiki is so terrible is that we let random folks contribute to it - Flatist and Roundist alike. Most the folks who worked on it, giving up their rights to any part of it, ran off and stole this content to form their own society filled with nonsense. This could easily be used against them, which we won't do because we are the better man and any man with sense enough to know the earth is flat has their right to viewing their own voice.

Don't get me wrong - some of the writers were spot on and brilliant. But the quality level overall is not consistent. I'd love to replace all this content, but I have also run the society and all its planar and oversea actions as well as a local group I'm starting back up. If you'd like to be regular contributor to the Flat Earth Society content, rewriting much of what junk is in the wiki, please do.

I'd love to publish it. Or if you have some new ideas. We are open.

It's not my problem how dilapidated you leave your house/forum/society though. However I like places like these for the social interest, the thought experiments and the fact that as adults we can still fool around and have fun. The question is. You misunderstand my 'demands'. Almost everything I say here is meant to be taken in a light hearted jest. It is not only me that would like to see the wiki improved though. Rather than get annoyed that your patrons 'want this or want that', take pride that your patrons want things to be great and they want to take pride in what really is a very outlandish society.

The wiki will be removed. I'm open to alternative suggestions, but that is the current plan. It will be implemented when it is.

As it were, I used to run this Wiki, with Daniel's blessing (which at least at the time superseded your own). I can assure you that nobody who contributed to the Wiki under my guard "gave up their rights to any part of it". On the contrary, it was run with a clear tracking of contributions, and with due and appropriate attribution. I'm sorry to hear that you would go back on that agreement without appropriate notice or communication, but I personally don't mind. Whether or not other contributors do is another thing.

This is also untrue. As part of your botched server transfer through which you single-handedly initiated the schism, you killed off the Wiki (or, rather, you left it in a completely non-functional state). I restored it from backups, allowing the content to live on. Many months later, you put up your own version, missing more than a year of pre-schism edits and corrections. At face value, I agree - your version of the Wiki should be deleted, simply because it is not representative of what (to my understanding) either society believes. Why you bothered to bring it back up in its current state is completely beyond me.

John, you know as well as anyone else here that this entire forum is in the intensive care unit of the internet. It's not quite dead, but it's not quite alive enough to be an enjoyable user experience. It goes down for hours or even days multiple times per month, and simple features, like the wiki, have been anything between completely inaccessible and marginally functional. You could at least recognize that other users are significantly more competent than you when it comes to websites and learn from their experience rather than chastising them for eventually becoming fed up with your sub-par administration.
