Plenty of ships have completely circumnavigated Antarctica, so it isn't the edge of the world.  So far nobody in the FES knows where the edge is.  Or, if not an edge, where "The Forbidden Zone", the Great Boundary Line, the No-Go Barrier --- whatever you want to call it -- is.  Makes it very tough to insist that the Earth is flat if one can continuously sail or fly from one place to another and the mileage or fuel consumption or travel time shows it's consistent with a globe, not a flat plane.

Personal experience is not necessary to know something as truth.

For example:
for equinox everywhere in the world
Sun rises at 6 am exactly at east
and sets at 6 pm exactly at west.

You don't have to see it for yourself everywhere in the world.
People live or travel all over the globe.

If there is place where it isn't true (except poles) people would be happy to expose the error.
However, if someone would say it isn't true, and in fact it is, people would be happy to expose that person.
