Antarctica's lousy weather

I believe in the geocentric model, but not 100% sure either way whether we're on a ball or a plate.  :)  Leaning towards the latter right now.

At any rate, I've been doing plenty of reading on the subject, about how Antarctica has this ice wall and the weather is pretty horrific.

Why is flying to the "South Pole" such a big deal?  Why is it so hazardous?  Why does Antarctica have such lousy weather?

Just something I think about occasionally.

It is hazardous because it is too cold for humans to survive on without equipment.

It is cold because it is always angled really far a way from Tue sun, which means it gets the same energy from the sun spread out over a much larger area, so less energy density.
I wonder how obnoxious I can make my signature?
Please give me ideas.

Flying over the south Pole is not hazardous in itself. It the lack of divert landing strips that is the problem.

Plenty of planes have flown over the antarctic. But the weather can turn foul very quickly and there is no where to land in an emergency and in the case of a crash,. no likelihood of rescue perhaps for weeks.
