So Trump himself saying that tariffs may cause pain.  But maybe not. Because as president he doesn't need to know the results of his actions.

Tariffs cause pain or not depending on how society is structured.

So if most of our core goods (grain, dairy, meat, veg) are imports, most of our goods are thus taxed. So much for that woke Immigrant Awareness Day where immigrants don't attend work.

If on the other hand, only specialty goods (like that Nintendo product) are imports, the tax is basically a luxury tax.

You choice.

Double down on immigrants as a way of life, or accept that Americans can in fact make things themselves. But no, we're content to fiddle around on our cellphones, convinced that our tech crap makes a difference. Sorry, farmers and factory workers make a difference. We have managed without big tech for thousands of years.

Currently though, it sounds like Congress and the judicial system is starting to balk at these executive orders, so I wonder if he can manage any of this. This is probably a good thing. Look all you "You support him" doofuses. Sometime read what I actually say. What I don't want is a tyranny. And I know what one feels like having seen China from an overseas trip. No, it does not matter to me if someone offers free perks or so-called special rights.

I am utterly tired of big government. I am tired of leftism, rightism, seriously, just leave everyone the fuck alone. If I want to go to church or work in a dress? Nobody's damned business. Nothing about that requires large taxes. But yet, that's what happened under Biden. If I want to make high salary? Shouldn't be the IRS's damned business either.
Just go away everyone. I just to hang out with people in my town. Talk to my neighbors, swim in a pool in the summer, shovel snow in the winter, see about planting seeds for a farm if I feel up to it, or just kinda be depressed if not.  See if I can date someone and maybe have a family. If not, just stop bugging me with regulations. No, I don't want to try to find two proofs of legal presence, a birth certificate and a few other papers. No, I don't want to have people filling out income taxes for me when I barely made anything. No, I don't open borders, and no I don't particularly want any immigration drama either.

Just go away everyone. That's my political stance.

I'm conservative when the country is too liberal, I lean center when it's too (I don't lean left anymore because leftists are fucking crazy), and right now, the country is too damned polarized. I don't want any of it. I just want it all to collapse.

No, I don't fucking care, Lord Dave, what people think of me. And for the record, I did the same thing in a Pridefest. You know what they said? "No such thing." That guy was probably one of the chill people there. I am really really tired of all this crap. So let's assume Trump fails. Like me, if he becomes tired when the public no longer supports of believes in his ideals. What then? Well, America's days are sorely numbered. Her taxes are too high, her money is inflated, her standard of living is vastly incompatible from what people make to what people in big cities think should be charged. America's likely to go out with a whimper not a bang.

Oh no! Conservatives will discriminate against me. Who fucking cares? I love this country, and can't stand to see it a pale shadow of itself. You know the discrimination I really see, though? You guys. I see how often that I'm attacked by the left.  The right wouldn't bother me at all if they managed to streamline the ID system. But the left, like some old abuser, tells me that nobody else will ever love me. Sorry, but I'm afraid you are wrong. My largely conservative town accepted me in church, in where I worked, when I voted, and so on. The didn't care how I looked. On the other hand, I distinctly recall walking up and down the largely liberal town nearby, and found that work application one after another fell through.

Big hint: not all Americans are liberal. So this means plenty of conservatives, like the ones I've encountered, do in fact oppose such anti-trans regulation. But we do NOT need bloated government regulation, only sensible and compassionate people.

Oh American can become China in terms of manufacturing.  Just gotta pay people shit and remove safety regulations and make a factory job the only way to get work.
Same with farmwork.

And tons of stuff are imported because, and this may shock you, but the US farmers can't all grow crops year round.  There's this thing called winter and it makes lot of farmland... Well... Unusable.  So we gotta import or.. you know... Starve.  Because we have too many people to feed without help.

And honestly?  You wanna be left alone?  Go find a country that has no laws or no real government. I hear Somalia is nice for that.

There's also something called canning.  You can make jams, chutneys, kimchi, and pickles, and save them for eating during the winter.

In actuality, only the produce section is really affected by farming limits. And there are in fact certain crops that can be grown during the winter. Kale, spinach, scallions, garlic, and about twenty other plants are at least okay with cold.

You can also grow year round with certain farming setups (greenhouse, indoor garden, etc). It just isn't as fertile or as good as outdoors during spring.

Also, ummm...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_wheat
Yeah, there's an entire strain of wheat that grows during the winter.

Now, I usually take a break during winter, and I'm kinda a slacker in terms of farming anyway. But our farm still technically has crops there. They're just kinda looking unwatered cuz we have the hoses shut off. But we technically did plant crops for the winter, even though we kinda forgot about them.

And lastly, you do know that there are few states that rarely get cold, and one that's in the tropics? Before globalism, this is what we did. We sold greens like kale all year, and fruits were seasonal. People didn't starve by any means. Your ignorance seems to be a very large part of why you think we need rampant immigration. Are your fresh blueberries really worth it? They aren't even that fresh, they've been gassed.

Winter wheat.

Winter wheat is usually planted from September to November (in the Northern Hemisphere) and harvested in the summer or early autumn of the next year.
Yeah...so no winter harvesting.  How does that help?

Sure, canning is a thing.  So is freezing.  Got enough unimported for all 350 million people?  Maybe.  Maybe not.  In 1900, the US population was about 73.6 million.  I'm not sure your 'we can just do what we used to' is gonna work out so well.  But maybe it will!  Go tell people to do it.

Also, my blueberries come from Morocco and aren't gassed.  EU regulations.

So, Trump has declared the tariffs delayed by 30 days because Mexico and Canada pledge to do... What they've been doing.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c87d5rlee52o

There is a question of the troops.

Are they the same that Biden convinced Mexico to put on the border in 2021 or are they just the same operation being repeated?

Should be noted: Biden convinced Mexico to put 10,000 troops on the border and help with immigration without causing an international incident.

Trump really should read the Ferengi rules of acquisition.

He REALY wants them gone.  Like as many as possible and even calls their jobs "low productivity".  Like... what would happen if everyone took that offer?
Not only would the government be paying people to NOT WORK for months, but literally the entire governemnt would shut down.

Don't you get it?

We have too much government. We have workers that having nothing really to do, decide to meddle in people's lives.

Trump is just doing to them what Biden did to the taxpayer. Paying people not to work.

They should take him up on the offer.

DEI is a prime example of useless government. Do we really need a department just for enforcing diversity?

No, the government won't shut down.

This stuff isn't government, it's what's called pork (wasteful spending). The government is Congress, Senate, President, and Supreme Court. These departments if their jobs were really examined are incredibly non-essential. Ironically, during Biden's COVID days, they were probably called essential while having people to fix houses? No, that's not essential. You could just buy a new house! Those peasants, just let them eat cake! We have more important things to do like ensuring that there are an equal number of males and females in our meeting, and nonbinary people are listed as neither male nor female.
https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2025/02/dnc-meeting/681548/
That actually happened. They had a meeting where they pointed out that they carefully balanced the ratio of men, women, and nonbinaries.

Sports organizations should be allowed to set their own rules.  Now they can't: The President does.

So the next Democrat can FORCE transgender women into women's sports.  All they gotta do is sign a piece of paper.

People accuse me of being at the Donald's teat, but let me offer you a not so theoretical.

Suppose you had two choices of laws.

1. Penalize crossdressers or trans people who are going to sneak into the bathroom to molest women, or illegal immigrants who are going to commit terrorism.
2. Increase the penalty for rape or murder.

Bottom line: we shouldn't judge people for what they may have done in the past, and we can't condemn them for what they may do in the future. Only the present matters in this regard.

Quote
Tho, long story short, his EO defining what a female and male is, is ... vague enough to be worthless in court.

We need to instead have different laws. I've pretty much concluded chromosomes are worthless. Some people have partial androgen insensitivity, and some have total.

The idea that every XY person is a male that has had a sex change is a spurious notion. Intersex is a real thing. Hell, some people have a mix (known as chimerism) of XY and XX chromosomes.

1. Maybe lump sex changes with abortions (because that's what they are, birth control of future children), and still legally funding them by government. Consider both operations malpractice, and strip licenses of any who perform them.
2. Make IDs more secure. None of this nonsense where you visit one person for a passport, one for social security. All the same place, when you update one, you can apply to update them all.
3. If the government wants to define males and females, use a fingerprint database connected to birth certificate. Simple as that. Anything that you use forms for is not only cumbersome, but is subject to lies and feelings.
4. Remove gender from ID. Fingerprint scan anything which really needs sex.
5. Uphold consent. If I wanted to go to a women's field hockey team, and the team was okay with it, they set the rules. If they say, "You can play with us, but take a shower after we're done," that's what I have to abide.

2. Increase the penalty for rape or murder.

What is this obsession with increasing the penalty for some crime as a solution to decrease crime rates? Here is a statistic. Norway has a maximum prison sentence of 21 years, meaning that you can't stay longer than that in prison (unless in very rare circumstances where it can be extended, because you are a mass killer or something like that), and there is no death sentence. In the US, murderers typically get life in prison or death sentence. So we can certainly say that the US has harsher penalties for murder than Norway (and I'm not sure how you're going to make death sentence harsher).

Norway has about 0.75 homicides per 100,000 people, while the US has about 5.8, which is higher than many war-torn and impoverished countries. For instance, Afghanistan had about 4.0 in 2021.

Would you say the harsher penalties for murder in the US compared to Norway helped at all to decrease murder rates? And how would you go about making penalties harsher, when there's already a death sentence in many places? Why do people still think that just because you make penalties harsher, people are going to stop commiting crimes?

Yeah, I'm sure that is totally accurate.

Probably is very close to accurate, it comes from UN research, and it's actually a really high murder rate, and it's simar to other countries in the region. It's just that the Americas have absurdly high murder rates, and I'm guessing it's probably related to the drug trade. Nothing to do with the harshness of penalties though. In fact, if most drug related prohibitions were simply dropped, most of this would probably stop.

Norway has about 0.75 homicides per 100,000 people, while the US has about 5.8

What's the murder rate for Norwegians in America.

Did I go too far?

Nevermind.
Why would that be inciting terrorism?  Lorddave was merely describing a type of shop we have here in the US, a bomb-gun shop.  A shop that sells bomb-guns.

1. Penalize crossdressers or trans people who are going to sneak into the bathroom to molest women...
Does this even happen?  Sure, there are plenty of sexual predators out there, but how many of the are trans or cross dressers?
Oddly, yes.  Alot more than you'd think.

Is that the only reason you can think of for the disparity? Surely socio economic factors play a role.

There's plenty of data on the issue, I'm sure you can make an opinion as to why.
