This is something to expect when you make a bunch of executive order decisions in the first week.
I have two real qualms with his inauguration speech:
1. His thing about AI. Aren't AI cars literally killing people with their awkward design? What this country needs are traditional skills. We don't need more dangerous technology, we need more artisans to make American goods (woodwork, metallurgy, pottery, etc). Particularly kitsch. It's not right that the Chinese now make our tacky crap.
2. I object to the gender vs sex stuff, but only because it is so damned inefficient. I looked at how many forms were needed for the Real ID, and it basically assumes that you are put together human being who happens to have a normal job, an apartment or house, and so on. If you are a loser or basement dweller, you are not allowed to get on a plane and treated like a criminal. And if your birth certificate and other info doesn't match up, God help you if Trump decides to enforce this two sex thing (some documents have a "fraud on documents is a federal crime resulting in arrest" clause). Even without that, I would have to update my passport (that alone costs $130 not counting $10 shipping and $15+ for photo), driver's license, social security, tax stuff, etc. That's a lot of waiting in lines and a lot of money that isn't covered by anyone. And they don't fucking talk to each other! Each bureaucracy is a separate agency.
I actually wrote to Trump, asking him "Look, why not do away with the Real ID, and stop listing sex on IDs? Two factor identification with driver's license and fingerprint scan. The print scan could even contain different info depending on what scanners are issued to the person." So a medical team might need birth certificate to not place males in an all female ward or to not waste time worrying about whether the patient might have vaginal cancer, while a nightclub only needs to know the address and age of the patron which is listed on the card ID. More importantly, while an illegal immigrant might somehow obtain a driver's license, a quick scan of their prints reveals the truth.
Could that lead to tyranny? Better that than putting up with a very public display of sex/gender on ID. When race isn't allowed on ID, we shouldn't have sex either. The knowledge that the government knows everything about you is a given, but I shouldn't have random ppl that I show ID to know that. If it needs to be known (e.g. rape clinic) there ought to be no hiding it. When it doesn't need to be known, it should be private. In any case, I think the constant failure of card IDs was gonna eventually lead to RFID chipping humans, and I want to lead away from that. Human beings have a natural God-given identification, and if a society really feels it needs that, better that than other ideas.
I expect Trump to make some mistakes. I expect him to do some awful things in fact, including some ideas I've given him, which I will probably come to dread. But if he is able to merge government agencies and remove corruption and waste, this is a good thing still.
