Tariffs would lower prices... if they were the only tax. As long as the Fed exists, they will continue to demand higher returns on "national debt." While our government pays nothing. Tariffs work by encouraging companies to build locally. Income taxes encourage companies to outsource. So if you push business out of the country with high taxes, and then do tariffs, that's a higher price not a lower one. But if companies only have to work with tariffs, US goods to US citizens are cheap, and only imports and exports involve tariffs.

Regarding the fed.  So basically you're saying get rid of all credit and pay for everything with cash.  I don't think I agree with that one.  Credit is just a tool.  If it's used irresponsibly then you'll get bad results.  If you use any tool irresponsibly then you'll get bad results.  Hire better tool operators.  Don't get rid of the tools.

Regarding tariffs. There's a lot of problems with this.  Modern economies leverage specialization for higher productivity.  Barriers to trade make specialization difficult.  A more immediate problem is that we can't just shift businesses to react to an effective ban on foreign input.  It takes years, probably longer than Trump has in office.  During that time the material cost is %20 more expensive.  Therefore the final product must be %20 more expensive.

If we had spare labor then maybe there'd be a justification for this but employment is historically low.
