I must return with an honest answer of they accomplished nothing when they held all 3 offices and that's simply embarrassing.

Fake News!

They did the most important thing for the donor class.  They gave them massive tax cuts.  If you're the top 1% this is the best possible outcome.

I dunno, the tax cuts put money back in most Americans' pockets. That's better since I know how to spend my money better than the government can, and it's been especially nice during economically difficult times due to COVID.

Oh, and I appreciate the federal government butting out for the most part and encouraging businesses and schools to reopen as is possible and safe instead of insisting they shut down across the board. Y'know, I actually want to still have an economy.

While True, it did so by kicking the can down the road.  The first tax break just ballooned the deficit.  The second isn't even a real one, it was a payday loan: No payments til April.  Then you owe it all.

I think the issue is that they didn't encourage it safely nor provide aid to do so.  I worked at a school for many years.  I know how it feels to have 500 students in a hallway (over a period of 3 minutes).  I know what budget cuts look like.  Highschool probably would have been fine but 30 7 year olds?  Not a chance.

Look, the issue isn't that they want to shut down.  The issue is that people didn't actually do it.  Shut down for a month and you'd have it under control.  But between protestors, people who hate masks, people who travel anywayz etc... It didn't do a damn thing.

The thing about the tax cuts is that the cuts for the corporations are permanent.  The cuts for individuals are temporarily.  They phase out slowly until 2025.  For some reason this caveat is never talked about.  So this is mostly corporate welfare.

So what did the corporations do with the money?  Well they upgraded equipment, made some new hires, bonuses etc.  But 80% of it went to stock buybacks.  You might have noticed the stock market rising to levels that don't exactly make sense.  This is one of the reasons why.

Literally any idiot can make a tax cut though.  He famously didn't even read the Act  - it was ready to go and he just signed it.   Making a tax cut and balancing the books is the tricky bit - which he didn't do.

If you think you can spend money better than the government, then I'm not sure you should be voting for Trump - he increased Federal spending by $800B.

Ye Olde Trickle Down Economics...Or Voodoo Economics. I can't believe people fell for it again after it was proven worthless back in the Reagan 80's. The intent: Massive corporate tax breaks lead to corporations pouring tons of money into infrastructure expansion, more jobs, the 'all boats rise' gambit. And as you said and like in the 80's, the corporate elites just lined their pockets instead. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

Anyways, I'm less inclined to blame corporations and more inclined to blame the public. Corporations don't pass through a membrane from another reality. They're propped up on your wallet.

So vote with your wallet. There are certain grocery stories I generally won't shop at and certain grocery stores I prefer to shop at because I like how those chains partner with brands that support fair-trade, or I like how those chains clearly value their employees more, and things like that.

The problem is that people want the cheapest, easiest, and quickest route -- they hardly care, if at all, about the rest. But that isn't the fault of corporations, i.e. organizations whose goal is maximum profit. They're just going with the flow and maximizing their profits per the public's expressed interests.

It's why Starbucks is moving away from using plastic straws, which seems like an environmentally-conscious move but really isn't: A sufficient amount of customers complained about it and were upset about it that the company decided it'd be in their best interest to move away from using them. There we can see a corporation going with the flow and responding to the expressed interests of the public in order to maximize profits.

So long as people don't care, things mostly ain't gonna change.

If the tax cuts put money back in most peoples pockets, Democrats would have been happy to vote for it.

But all it did was put more money into the offshore bank accounts of the super rich, which helps only them and hurts the rest of the country.

So big fail on their only accomplishment.  They could have done ANYTHING they wanted with taxes, and they decided to make the rich even richer and screw everyone else.  F*** those *******.

That only really works for consumer goods and services though.  You can choose which product to buy, but you don’t get a say in who their suppliers are, what equipment the company uses to manufacture it, what vehicles they transport it in, where they buy their computers or office furniture from, etc, etc, etc.

Also people on very tight budgets don’t always have much choice other than buying the cheapest available option.  So they buy stuff from companies who pay shit wages to their employees who in turn can only afford to buy stuff from companies who pay shit wages.

Small problem with that for MAGA fans is that it’s a global company and they split the loot between everyone worldwide.

Accurate.
However I will say that some corporations just own everything.  Like have you seen what nestle owns?  Alot.
You also have cases where companies will work together to share the market while not really offering a choice.

Like what do you do when the organic brand and the processed in China brand are owned by the same parent company?

Also take a look at your country getting over 1 million new infections every week. How is that helpful to the economy?

Look how other countries handled it. Australia got on top of a '2nd wave' and a state of millions of people which had lost control (getting more new cases per day than the UK at one point) has now not seen a single infection for nearly 3 weeks.

America with its millions of infections, hundreds of thousands of deaths and many more hundreds of thousands suffering long term health impacts from covid will feel the sting in the economy for a long time.

For too long you guys have run with this being not much more than a short term respitory illness. But it has been clear for a while this virus fudges up your heart and even the brain. Your lungs may be permanently damaged.

Here's some other effect to worry about when contracting covid. Cancer.

You could end up with millions of people suffering pulmonary scarring thereby increasing their risk of getting lung cancer. Who knows what other things you have in store waiting for you given how this disease ravages many parts of the body. Increased risk of heart disease/attacks? Increase risk of dementia?

Eh...
Yes and no.

While they did squash it best they could in America, the simple fact is, it wasn't ready.  The infrastructure wasn't ready.  The batteries wouldn't last long enough or go far enough and way too much of the electricity was from Coal plants anyway.  Plus, the US energy grid could not handle hundreds of thousands of electric cars being charged during the summer.  Places already have rolling blackouts due to A/C usage, add in electric cars and it just get worse.

What the US needs first is to redo it's energy grid.  Get that modernized, like they did with the highway system so many decades ago.  Then go from there.

Nice sudden shift in topic.

Anyway, I don't blame politicians -- I again blame the public.

All lockdowns and mandates do is justify government overreach. People will, either way, subvert restrictions whether they're enforced or not. Unfortunately.

So I've supported Trump's handling of the pandemic: Don't handle it. Allow states and cities the freedom and flexibility to handle the situation as is needed. I find his rhetoric distasteful though. I wish he'd speak about COVID as if it was the serious threat it is.

Then again, I also wish the mainstream media wasn't so adamant about misconstruing facts to construct a false narrative. And I wish the public appreciated how dire the situation is in some places and took it more seriously.

I wish a lot of things. But ultimately it comes down to people as individuals making a conscious choice to abide by health guidelines and do the right thing.

You should really look at how other countries that have successfully dealt with this pandemic have behaved. We still have conspiracy nutters but unlike America, we don't let them call the shots. We don't have a leader who emboldens them.

Governments are there to serve and protect the people too. In a serious pandemic it is not an overreach to shut down sectors of an economy if it saves thousands of lives. People elect governments to lead them. This is a situation where leadership was needed.

That depends on how we define "successfully." What worked in one country may not work in another, etc. In countries that were experiencing some success with hard lockdowns after a severe downturn, like Italy, those countries are now experiencing another downturn. There are a lot of contributing factors and it's just not so simple.

Governments are there to serve and protect the people too. In a serious pandemic it is not an overreach to shut down sectors of an economy if it saves thousands of lives. People elect governments to lead them. This is a situation where leadership was needed.

Then we fundamentally disagree on the role of government in society.

You feel that governments are elected to lead people; I feel that governments are elected to serve people.

You should really look at how other countries that have successfully dealt with this pandemic have behaved. We still have conspiracy nutters but unlike America, we don't let them call the shots. We don't have a leader who emboldens them.

Yes, governments lead and also serve

If the country is facing a crisis, a government can successfully lead their nation out of it. A successful country needs leadership. Who is the leader if not the government? Random Joe Bloggs? In a democracy, the people choose (to a point) their leaders. A deadly pandemic is exactly the time for leadership. Instead you had Trump dismantle Obamas pademic preparedness plans and insist to the people this virus was a hoax, a democratic ploy to impeach him, would go away on its own, rubbish Fauci, neuter the CDC, was going to fire Fauci if re elected and made wearing masks to be a democratic badge.

Trumps own pre election rallies caused the deaths of 700+ people and 30,000+ new infections.

Trump as a leader had the chance to handle this so much better even without a 'lock down'. Trump was just sheer reckless and stupid.

Mitch does not want Trump to pull troops out of Afghanistan.
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

Since when does Donald answer to Mitch?  Or anyone else, for that matter?
