That is a tough statement. At one I can't stand leaches or people who make dumb decisions then expect the tax payers to bail them out... however, on the other hand, I don't want a baby suffering because none of this is there fault.

That is a tough question and even tougher solution.

That is a tough question and even tougher solution.

We're not the sort of society that's comfortable watching people die on a gutter. Our only options are front loading support for a child that the parents can't or won't support(daycare, schooling, healthcare) or backloading(prison, rehab, welfare).

Front loading is always cheaper so it's the better option.

Not only is it cheaper, it creates a better society for everyone.

The Republicans (the elected ones, not the regular people) have been running on ending abortion and ending welfare for a long time. I don't think most people want babies to starve or women to die in childbirth. How can we as a society come together and realize that this shouldn't be a partisan issue? That we can take care of the poor and help the next generation have a better life?  It should be obvious that making sure women have access to healthcare actually lowers the number of abortions.

It should also be clear that non-abstinence only sex-ed lowers abortion rates also, yet that doesn't stop the Republicans in power from wanting abstinence only sex-ed. To them, I feel it's more about controlling what they deem to be morally acceptable behavior, which does not include having sex.

One systemic problem that I've seen in real life is the people you have to talk to if you want WIC and TANF will sometimes encourage people to have more babies because they'll get more help. For many poor, young new parents this is not a tough sell. And it creates lifelong challenges for the parents, the future children, and the support system. I'm all for the support system. But the employees should not be coaching applicants to have more kids to get more benefits.
