Nobody has suggested that Hillary committed treason.

Call off the firing squad.

She just allowed top secret documents to be exchanged with persons who lack clearance, through a home brew non-secure network. Things that people without any computer savvy whatsoever know is wrong. That she was instructed not to allow or cause to occur. Things that people go to jail for, and rightfully so.

BTW, the statute specifically excludes intent from the crime.

The problem is that it was written by Devin Nunes. Which means the reaction to the memo is going to very partisan, regardless of the contents. If this is a serious issue, it needs to come from someone who isn't a toady.

Evidently Devin Nunes hasn't even read the source material,  it seems like a case of Republicans deliberately misleading the American People.

People need to start demanding better of their elected leaders and officials. I'm all for Trump getting nailed, but you cant be partisan on it. Equally you would have to nail whoever is guilty regardless of which 'side' they are on and you support.

The same people calling for Trumps head for 'x' reasons would never be calling for Hillarys head (if she won) for the same reason. These rusted on supporters of a party are toxic to the democratic process and make leaders feel immune to do and say whatever they please because they know they still have a 'voter base' that will support them no matter what.

If I give my vote to a party, I'm even more critical of them than I am of those I didn't vote for. So for example the current Liberal party in Australia, if I vote for them, I am far more likely to be pissed off at them if they break promises or never intended to follow through because then my vote would have been given under false pretences which then strikes at the core of what a democracy is worth.

I'd be happy for Trump to be nailed on that singular issue. But then, keep every politician and leader to the same standard.

I linked to the actual articles of impeachment for Nixon,  by comparison, Trump has already done more than enough to get himself canned.

Is Trump breaching the constitution by not implementing Russian Sanctions?    Is there a majority large enough that invalidates the Presidential veto power?

Well, perhaps the 'wildcard' we need is for one political party to utterly burn to the ground and something with a bit more integrity and calibre to take its place later. In the long run, we can only hope it was for the better, even if there is short term pain. A tough and bitter pill indeed but if Trumps one good deed is for the public to stand up, take notice and demand better from their leaders, then so be it.

Treason is so open to interpretation anyway. You could assassinate Trump because you love your country and have good intentions because you believe he will ultimately bring about the apocalypse. Especially in a country where some of these people on death row, having food and shelter for so long, probably think they have no prospects on the 'outside'

It's like if you get caught for speeding. You are more likely to learn the lesson getting a fine on the spot by a police officer than you are getting a letter in the mail 2 weeks later. If execution was to have much more of a deterrent effect, you would need to do it soon after the fact. Not 20 years later.
