Your no fun....at least make an attempt to guess what show the phrase regarding the eels if from. The Chinese phrase is somewhat more fuck you!...but mr Davis deserves that for being such a  prat.

Maybe I made it too long.

This is a serious topic. Your nonsense about Chinese eels may entertain children, but this is a house of enlightened discourse.

It was always said Americans never got Monty Python.....the quote regarding the eels and the hovercraft is from a famous MP sketch....a joke about translation......the Chinese charecters!
When you have to explain a joke...it's just not even remotely funny. I think I should have stuck to more penguin related humour, that appears to work here abouts.

Did you really just explain the joke while explaining why not to explain the joke? I think the joke here is clear. Your nonsense has no place in this very serious thread.

Ok John you want to speak about fossils, ok. The historical speel you gave earlier on contained some of the names, omitted a few very important ones, and missed out a whole bunch of facts.
Let's start with the history.
The early Minoan civilisation were the first that I am aware of to have referenced 'fossils'. Though unaware of what they actually were they gave rise to the Cyclopse myth. What they found was actually fossilised skulls of elephants...you can read about it here along with a bunch of other historical references.
http://mentalfloss.com/article/64093/8-types-imaginary-creatures-discovered-fossils

You missed one very important name in your early history and it is that of Mary Anning who lived in Lyme Regis in Dorset, which is on what is know as the Jurrasic coast in southern England. I'll let you guess how it got the name.  It was she who discovered the first Ichthyosaur and Plesiosaur. The coast there is so abundant in fossils is that it has become a bit of a local industry, as they erode out the very soft cliffs after the winter storms.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Anning
http://www.lymeregis.org/fossils.aspx

Lyme Regis is a delightful place sholud try paying it a visit....you could pick up a fossil or two, and as a bonus no language problems, and as a second bonus the local delicacy is jellied eels!

The triangle inequality, a <= b+c is true in flat space.
Consider the straight line AB and some curve c that goes from A to B and isn't equal to AB.
A set of C points will be used to approximate c.
Step 1
Pick a point C1 on c, the path A,C1, B is clearly longer than AB by the triangle inequality.
Step n
Pick another point Cn on the path c, then find the points Cr and Cs that are before and after Cn on the curve c.
The path Cr,Cn,Cs is longer or equal to the path Cr,Cs by the triangle inequality. So the approximation of c given by the n C points is still longer than AB.
So by induction any approximation of a curve from A to B by a finite number of points is longer than AB.

This can be extended to the length of the curve itself.
Consider the sequence T. The value of Tn is the length of a finite approximation of c by a set of points where no two successive points are more than 1/n distance apart. Also the approximation used for Tn+1 must contain all the points used for Tn.
The limit of the sequence will be greater than AB, and will be equal to the length of c.
Therefore the straight line AB is the shortest path between A and B.

Good work, John Davis. I look forward to learning more about these "dinosaurs".

Good work! My you're easily impressed, 'that's no more good work than a fly in the air'....at least that's what my old mum would have said....no john Davis has got very little to say on Dinosaurs or fossils that has any merit.

I had to laugh at this particular statement he made as it shows lack of understanding on so many levels.

Where are all the fossils?
Why aren't we finding dinosaur bones in our backyard? They lived everywhere, didn't they?

You could indeed find Dino fossils in your back yard if you back yard happened to be sitting on rocks that were of the right age, but given most of us all live in urban locations that have been occupied for hundreds, or thousands of years it would be likely that any fossils would have been discovered a long time ago.

Fossils are indeed rare but new finds are being made all the time as are trackways left by Dino footprints. They are found all over the world but a particularly good one was found recently in Scotland.
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2015/12/151201-dinosaur-sauropod-scotland-footprints-science/

...but new finds are being made all the time..
http://www.theverge.com/2016/10/20/13351870/new-dinosaur-species-savannasaurus-australia-discovery-titanosaur-sauropod

Carbon dating does not go back more than 40k years
A full dinosaur skeleton has never been found

...Carbon dating is used to determine dates on more recent fossil finds say from 8k or 10k years ago but never on Dino fossils. In this case there are a number of other techniques that can be employed that include radiometric dating and relative dating techniques.

....and yes it would be very rare to find 100% of the bones of any creature that died over 65 million years ago, but we don't need to find all the bones from any one specimen to obtain a clear picture of what the animal was like.

Going by what you have said on this thread it comes over how little you know about fossils, dinosaur or otherwise, but you appear to know enough to impress the more I'll educated of your followers, and at the end of the day that's what counts......maintaining your position of big fish in a tiny pond.

Why would that be inciting terrorism?  Lorddave was merely describing a type of shop we have here in the US, a bomb-gun shop.  A shop that sells bomb-guns.

I'd be more than happy to take Mr Davis fossil hunting with me. I have a couple great spots in North Texas that is full of fossils. One creek that runs through Sherman TX, Post Oak Creek, is littered with shark teeth. I found 43 teeth in just under 3 hours of hunting. Also found 3 rare Ptychodus teeth. The other place, the North Sulphur River, is littered with shark teeth, vertebral disks, and the occasional coprolite (I have only found 1). The bones and teeth of Mosasuars and Plesiosaurs (of which I have found much of both) turtles scutes, tons of fish teeth and bones (all fossilized, of course)  and multiple species of mollusk shells. Also strewn about are the remains of Pleistocene megafauna - camel, horse, sloth, and Mastodon tooth enamel.
I'd be happy to take anyone anytime. Maybe I should post some pics of my own personal finds. I dare anyone to call them fake.

You are so lucky to live near such a cool place. I used to love watching Robert T Bakker go on about his dinosaur theories that were very often at odds with Jack Horner's. But between them they did a lot for popularising palaeontology. Pity John wasn't paying attention.

Later. Mostly Woodland period. I have never found a Clovis. It would be the find of a lifetime for sure, as they are pretty rare. They also can be worth a small fortune at $1000 an inch. I don't sell my artifacts, I enjoy keeping them. Each one has a story behind it. The market is flooded with fakes and reproductions, and there are some out there very difficult to distinguish authentic from fake. Modern patinization has come along way. And just like Dino fossils, China has fakes too.

Are you talking to yourself, my precious? Kinda weird... Anyways, did you know that the first dinosaur ever on display did not include the skull? For 15 years people were in awe of this skeleton that was almost all plaster casting. Only a few ribs and fragments of bones were real. I bet nobody knew that back then... Also, no other dinosaurs were displayed during that time. Strange huh... Youde think a t rex or tricertops skull would have been front and center as an attraction.

I think the dinosaur lie is a great starting point in a conversation about flat earth. Most people are already very critical about dinosaurs already. As well as pointing out the correlation between the two. They both disprove Gods word. So go strike a conversation up with your neighbor, ask them what they think about dinosaurs. That might give you a clue as to how they might respond to flat earth.

According to me. I know this may be a new idea to you, but I speak to people in real life. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that dinosaur "experts" are always coming up with new ideas about how they lived... One day T rex is a king of the jungle, hellbent on eating everything it sees, then the next day its a scavenger, who eats only carrion. How can these people make such varying deductions. There have been many dinosaur hoaxes, and fossils in general are already a well known area of fraudulent activity.

Your quite right, that's how scientific understanding goes, it evolves over time as new evidence is revealed. TRex memains are pretty rare and different palentoligists have different views based on that available evidence. The hunter carrion eater argument I think has been settled in that the current thinking is it would have done both......the evidence for that came from a fossil of hadrosaur  which had teeth from a  TRex lodged in its spine. The teeth however had bone growth around them. This proved that the TRex that tried to take it down while the sauropod was still alive.

I am glad you agree. Fossils of dinosaurs really are all hoaxes, such as the evidence suggests. They do however make great stories still, like the tantalizing TRex. Science should accept its mistakes and move on from the long outdated globe and evolutionary, trillion year old earth.
