Because no form of hot-gas jet propulsion system can exceed the velocity of its own exhaust gasses.

For it to do so it would have to defy all the laws of physics.

That may be true for air breathing jet engines, but not so for rocket engines.

So you are saying that there is a limit to the flow of air through a jet engine? Makes sense, since the fuel must ignite, and if the flow is too high, I guess it would flame out due to it leaving the chamber too soon.
