How to convince yourself in three easy steps
« on: March 22, 2017, 04:13:09 AM »
1. Download and install Stellarium
2. Enter your location, a time and date
3. Observe the sky and compare it with the animated one in Stellarium

Bonus task: Keep in mind that stellarium is an open source program calculating the positions of stars using a spherical earth. If necessary, take an arbitrary star and calculate its position yourself, see that it gets the same result.

Convince myself of what.  I've already proven Stellarium does not reflect reality.

Sorry for the bump, but I really would like to see a prove that shows that stellarium does not reflect reality.

Conversely, here are the steps to becoming a FE believer. I think it could be quite effective. Especially the part about closing your eyes.

I know the debacle you are in my friend. I too had once convinced myself that our earth must be round. But you can still reach enlightenment as I have. If you close your eyes and focus hard enough you can feel the soft rhythmic vibrations that could only be felt by riding upon the back of a colossal sea turtle as it swims through space. There is no other feeling to even compare. I know you have been at a beach somewhere or driving down a highway and that thought passes through your brain, just ever so slightly, and u think "This stuff has to be flat." But you push it away for fear that society will push you away. Stop. Embrace it. They will do everything in their power to try to convince you otherwise. You are going to see their "mountains" and be confused but you have to see through their lies. I know this all hard to swallow right now but that is okay. Baby steps. Society will shame you for your beliefs. Don't let them. Be strong. Be proud.

Sorry for the bump, but I really would like to see a prove that shows that stellarium does not reflect reality.

I vaguely remember a thread in which someone posted a photo where the sun was behind some clouds. They then hypothesised about where the sun might be (it was hard to tell), and claimed that according to Stellarium it should have been somewhere else. The further claim was that Stellarium was wrong.

That someone may have been Silicon, I don't recall precisely.

Edit:
Found it. It was indeed Silicon: https://www.theflatearthsociety.org/forum/index.php?topic=68558.msg1842936#msg1842936

Huh, okay thanks!

It is baffling that stellarium is correct with the positions of all stars, everywhere on earth but messes up the sun when it is behind clouds, maybe they  think people will not notice as it is hidden. They just figure out where the clouds are beforehand and let their calculations wander off, only to have them back on track once the clouds are gone. Maybe the clouds are even created to cover up the conspiracy!
