I was born in the Shire on the 22nd of September.
I spent most of my childhood with my mother's family at Brandy Hall in Buckland.
However, when I was twelve, my parents died in a boating accident on the Baranduin river.
Nine years later, when I came of age, my uncle Bilbo took me in to live with him at Bag End, in Hobbiton.
Fourteen years later, at Bilbo's 111th birthday, he disappeared. I was now the master of Bag End, and the owner of a peculiar ring that used to belong to Bilbo. As the old wizard Gandalf told me, though, the ring was a magical artefact of potent power and devious intentions. It had to be destroyed, where it was forged, in the heart of Mount Doom; or Sauron, the dark lord, would return and engulf Middle-earth in shadow.
