this thread is getting way off topic.  let's all stop speculating on how google made google earth (unless someone really knows, i sure don't).  my original point in making this thread was to find out of FEers think google is part of the conspiracy, which i don't think anyone has answered unless i skipped over it.  and if you do think google is part of the conspiracy, can you explain why a company based around an internet search engine would want to deceive the general public?

Money and power. Duh.

i know you are being sarcastic, but for the the sake of argument lets assume you were being serious, or lets assume that your response is that of a rea FEer:  wouldn't google earth make wayy more money by being the first to reveal the earth is flat?  and since money = power, they would be waaaaay more powerful too.

Probably not.  Google is a not-for-profit organization in the first place, so they dont' really "make" money anyway.

Secondly, if they did try to reveal the Earth being flat, the Government would come down on them like a guillotine in seconds flat.

Not really. You are assuming that they will circle the Earth for each zoom. They could easily take 3 pictures of the same spot from 10 different zooms, before the satellite has moved enough to take a picture of another section of the Earth.

How slow do you think satellites move?

haha.  what proof do you have for that claim?  none i'm assuming.  maybe i'm wrong (but probably not).  i think you're giving our government way too much credit to say the least.  if they can't coverup watergate, lewinkski type ordeals, i doubt theyd be able to shut up GOOGLE for christs sake.

Are you mad? You can buy shares of google. Which would make you a share holder. Companies divide their profits between shareholders. Non-profit organisations cannot sell shares or have shareholders, it's illegal. And  I assure you Google makes enough money to make your income look like pocket change.

If the gouvernment comes down on them in a second, how would that help show the public that they're (google) wrong?

Google just bought YouTube for 16+ billion dollars. Trust me, they are making plenty of money.

And if Google tried to tell people the world was flat, the goverment wouldn't care, because there is no conspiracy. They are busy enough trying to keep the world from finding out that Australia doesn't exist, and don't need to waste time keeping Google from spreading stories of false conspiracies.

GOOGLE DOES NOT OWN ANY SATELLITES!!!  The photos it gets are from two sources, one of which is the US government.

You were arguing about Google knowing the truth because they had satellite images.  Google does not own any satellites, so people can pass off pictures as satellite images to google and no one will be the wiser.

maybe you didn't think into this very much...but the government couldnt just give google digitally doctored photographs of the earth and say "haha we tricked google and they will in turn trick everyone else."  and heres why:  google earth connects millions of pictures into spherical shape.  that couldnt be done if the pictures didnt really line up.  you couldn't take those same pictures and perfectly make a triangular prism, unless the earth was indeed triangular.

for those of you who don't know, google earth is "a free-of-charge, downloadable virtual globe program. It maps the earth by superimposing images obtained from satellite imagery, aerial photography and GIS over a 3D globe." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_earth). so for FEers, is google in on the conspiracy too? if so why? if not, then why are you an FEer?

I just told you they don't own any satellites, therefore, they will not be any wiser as to the shape of the earth.

Last time I checked, satellite images were square.  You can't put a bunch of squares together to make a sphere.  Ever tried looking at the geological North and South poles of the earth on Google Earth?  They're all pinched up.  Google Earth doesn't really have definitive proof of a round Earth, I'm sorry.

But it is really neat to look at.

true, you couldn't do it if you didn't overlap pictures that had partially the same content.  think about it.  google is proof.  sorry.

The government maps out the earth, compiles the images and then licences the use of the map to Google.  How does that make Google proof of the shape of the earth?

Perhaps you should read some of the posts on the site.
Here is a write up of the aquisition.  Keyhole is a software company, not a satellite company.

Straight from Google themselves.

I think the crux of the problem here is that REers like you continue to play DA for FE and it gets confusing. I think you and the others should spor being DAs and argue for RE.
