FET map actually proves RET
« on: January 28, 2015, 11:11:29 AM »
The only map I've seen from FET is an Azimuth Equidistant Map and people look at it and wonder how they can get the distances from cities in Australia correct (most obvious place to start).  You can get the distances correct using RET though.  You can estimate the latitude and longitude of any city based on the lat/long lines of the map.  Then using standard RET calculations you can calculate the arc length of the great circle that goes through both points.  It is an RET map after all!  Ask FET for a map and they will hand you a globe without realizing they just proved the earth is not flat!

It's clearly stated in our FAQ that the map you're referencing is not the actual flat-earth map; it's just an approximation to get the idea across.  A lot of people have trouble conceptualizing a flat-earth so we included the approximation in our FAQ.

But the fact of the matter is that there is no "actual " or  accurate Flat Earth Map of the entire earth nor has there ever been one  nor ever will there be one.

Because the fact of the matter is that the earth is not a flat disc. It is a sphere. The best that FES has ever presented is that "projection- and it was made from a globe.  Fact and evidence.

It is more than an approximation -- it is actually a globe.  So you are saying, to give you an idea of a FET map, imagine a globe that you squish flat.  To even image a map in FET you have to start with RET.  The whole point of FET is that you are claiming that the entire earth is a flat surface, yet the only problem is you can't actually represent the earth as a flat surface.  Really, the argument begins and ends right here!  No FET map, no FET.

It's impossible to perfectly project a sphere on a flat map and similarly it's impossible to project a plane on a round map.  It's impossible for the FET and RET distances to agree.  It's mathematically impossible to have a perfect flat map of the Earth.

How would this flight path look like on a flat Earth map:

Wouldn't it be shorter if the plane were to go over the north pole instead of taking such a long route?  Think about it.

And to be intellectually honest, you should should cite the source of that map and say that it is the projection of a globe.

Maybe if we claimed that it was actually a map of the flat Earth, but we're not. We're claiming it's an approximation. There's a difference.

No, it is not the same, you do not cite that it is the projection of a globe, that is not an approximation of an FET map, it is a actual RET map.

Here is a simple experiment.:
An orange is more or less a globe. Draw the continents on the orange. Then check out  how the flat maps were made. Cut up the orange rind in segments accordingly . Then squash (or "squish"LOL)  those segments as flat as you can. Then... See how close that looks like your flat earth map ! Of course a grapefruit would be bigger . LOL. And after the experiment you could eat or make some juice from the orange or the grapefruit after you took off the peel and cut it up to make your flat earth map. So it wouldn't be a complete loss.  You could do this with any globe shaped object.

It's not a misrepresentation when we're not representing it as a map of the flat Earth.... this isn't hard to understand, jim.

It is a lie by omission.  "A lie of omission is an intentional failure to tell the truth in a situation requiring disclosure." (http://definitions.uslegal.com/l/lie-by-omission/)  The FAQ fails to disclose that the map presented is a globe.  It is presented as original work by FET namely that it is an approximation of a flat earth map.

Google Earth uses much more sophisticated software than Photoshop to take the pictures taken from aircraft and stitch them together into an almost seamless representation of the Earth.  Look it up.  It is really quite fascinating how they can take all of those small flat pictures and run it through a program to make it look like they are on a round Earth.

My point is that it's impossible to accurately project a flat Earth on a sphere, and yet I know that everything is proportional because my house is not stretched or anything.

So, let me get this right.  You are saying that it is unreasonable to think that flat Earth pictures could be stuck together to make a globe, but that globe pictures are perfectlly reasonable to make flat?  Did you actually think about this before you posted?

I'm just saying that if the Earth is flat, then making a flat earth map should be trivial as well as stitching together aerial photographs.  Obviously an FET map, for example, is not trivial otherwise there would be one.  At this point it is safe to say that an FET map is impossible which means a flat earth is also impossible.  Flatness is the crown jewel of FET and yet the crown of FET is without a single jewel.

Actually, you can't accurately map the world on a 2D plane. Look at any map and you will see that its proportions are incorrect. A globe however, is perfectly accurate.
