Let us assume for a minute that Australia does not exist, but rather an alternate location that various people experience as Australia when they go for a visit. Since none of you have been able to suggest the exact location of this Australian mimication site let us place it for now in an arbitrary position, say between the Indian and Pacific Oceans (there's lots of space there anyway).

It would be too hard for the government to fake a continent or country that is connected to so many other places. The only way to get to Australia is by plane or boat, two forms of transportation which could easily be regulated by the government. You can get into Europe from any of its bordering countries by car, which can not easily be regulated without people noticing.

That is what makes it so easy to do. Because the idea is so insane, the government would have absolutely no trouble pulling it off, because nobody would expect it. Even if someone mildly suspected what is happening, they would just brush it off because the idea is so crazy. And because the mind has so much trouble letting go of things it believes to be fact, I am having a lot of trouble convincing people of the truth.
