Let me make this simple. Assume that I am new and have read the wiki and FAQ. I have a question about something that wasn't covered in either of these. I ask this question in Q&A. I receive a proper and intelligent answer. But it can be easily proven that the answer doesn't work. I should be allowed to debate this answer without making a new thread.

Once the site bugs get fixed, what if mods could ban people from specific fora?  That way anyone, FE or RE, could participate in Q & A but if they make a habit of trying to start debate then they can't post in Q&A, just the debate and general fora.

In short, a milder form of purgatory.

Or again, just move threads that you feel belong in debate. You do it all the time with AR and CN.

There is a difference in asking more questions in reference to the answer given and debating it.  I can tell you'll never see the point I'm making, so I say let's see some heavy moderating in there and let people learn from experience what the difference between questions and debates is.

Put the difference in religious context.  When you want to learn about a religion just for the sake of education and awareness, you just try to learn their principles and beliefs (this is what Q & A is for).

If you want to argue the religion's claims, then you are debating, with the general intention of trying to undermine the beliefs (debate fora).

I understand that there is a difference between clarifying and debating. But if you give me an answer I should be able to debate it if it can be proven wrong.

So again, I have to make a new thread. Having two threads for one topic is just silly. This is what my problem with this is.

You don't have to make two threads.  If you want to debate, then put it in FED.  You know very well when you post a topic whether you are going to accept or argue the answers you receive.

I would be happy to accept the answer if it was not debatable. But the problem is that most of the answers given can be debated.

markjo, do you even understand what the difference is between asking a question and debating a topic?
Why shouldn't asking a question naturally lead to discussing the answer?  Are we to simply let an answer stand with no scrutiny whatsoever?  Questions get asked in debate threads and debate happens in Q&A threads.  It's the natural course of discussion.  Get over it.
Discussion as a result of the question being answered will probably happen. However, Q&A is for questions, not debate. If you want to discuss, start another thread in FE Debate.

It doesn't work like that.  You make a Q&A thread for your question. Then if you want to debate the answer, start a Debate thread.

Instead of being lazy and asking others to do work for you, you could create a thread yourself.   I suppose that's too much work for the poster though.

If you already know you're going to disagree with the answer, then put it in debate. I bet you wouldn't go to a physics class with the intention of arguing with every lesson the professor teaches, because it is Q&A only and you know that. Q&A is a classroom, not a debate board. You ask a question, we answer.

You need to understand the difference between education and debate. If you go to a college classroom and debate the professor non-stop, you're going to get removed from the class for being disruptive.

Why would you have separate debate and Q&A forums if they were not meant to be separate?

If people stop posting debate bait in Q&A we won't have two threads on every topic.  Not only that, but one debate thread can cover multiple questions about FET if on a broad enough topic, and as such could be link for further debating of answers.

I guess this isn't getting through your head.
You.Ask.Questions.In.Q.&.A.You.Debate.In.The.Debate.Section.
You ask questions and get answers in one place, and if you don't like the answers you debate them somewhere else. You don't debate with your teacher in the middle of class, do you? No. You debate with him/her after class.

If I want to debate I put it in Debate. If I have a question I put it in Q&A. The thing is, questions often lead to debate. And then people have to start threads in debate about the same topic. Then people have to go searching for the debate thread if they read the question. If that's how you want it to work then fine.
