Virgin Galactic hoax update
« on: September 07, 2013, 01:49:42 PM »
So Virgin are banging the drum again to get some more publicity for their airline by pretending they will be doing space flights soon.

#" class="bbc_link" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">BBC News Virgin spaceship passes technical milestone
I love the bit where he says "I know it looks like a computer game". Apologising for the quality of the mock up is really poor show.

Full Story

Also, I have to say, the earth looks pretty flat at 69,000 feet.

I also like the way this aircraft is able to fly unlike any other and "shuttlecock" its way back to the ground. By shuttlecock, do they mean fall? Because they aren't using the word fly or glide.
It looks to me like they are pretending that the model gets into a low speed stall and rather than enter a spin or pick up huge amounts of speed on decent (remember how thing the air is up there) somehow this aircraft behaves like a leaf and gently floats.

Apparently they are telling us that now paying passenger is next year. Interesting because they said that this time last year, and the year before. In fact every year since they missed their original deadline in 2007.

this was meant to be a 3 year project starting in 2004. What an abhorrent scam.

How many "technical milestones" are there that they have to pass?

There is one required every time their flagging airline needs some publicity.

Space flight is real

But I do much much agree with you when you say the earth looks pretty flat from 69,000 feet. I couldnt agree more

I'm pretty sure I can prove it isn't, but we can agree to disagree being as we see eye to eye on earth's shape.

Also, I have to say, the earth looks pretty flat at 69,000 feet.

Felix Baumgartner ascended to 128,100 feet and the earth still looks relatively flat. You need to go higher to see the curvature of earth. 69,000 feet is nothing compared to the size of the earth. If the earth was the size of a basket ball, that would be like just 0.4 mm above it.

It is widely agreed by round earth zealots that you should see the curvature of the earth at any height above 40,000 ft. You saying that it still looks flat at 128,100ft only confirms my earth shape convictions.

As I said, that's barely 0.4 mm on a basketball size earth. What can you deduce from that altitude. A blind person cannot describe how an elephant looks like just by touching its trunk can he?

There are thousands of threads with RErs claiming to see curvature of the earth evidence at 40,000 or more. I shall in future refer them to your analogy.

He can tell you it's definitely not shaped liked a dog.

As far as I know, the aim of Virgin Galactic's Space Ship Two is to reach a cruising altitude of approximately 359,040 feet (68 miles or 110 kilometers) above the surface of the earth -- that would be 2 cm on a basketball size earth. You may then be able to see the curvature of the earth. But of course, there is always fish eye argument, isn't it?

It depends how far he touches its trunk. If it is only the tip of it, it can be anything even a dog.

Ævan your pretty good at twisting things aren't you???

"I love the bit where he says "I know it looks like a computer game". Apologising for the quality of the mock up is really poor show."

Its not a mock up at this point in the video its real life footage of the flight. The reporter is saying how awesome it looks, which it does. Not a poor show. Did you think no-one was going to watch it.

"Also, I have to say, the earth looks pretty flat at 69,000 feet."

At 0:51 a curvature can clearly be seen. Not flat.

"somehow this aircraft behaves like a leaf and gently floats. "

Correct they've been able to set its terminal velocity its not a trick / conspiracy it's good design, essentially a controlled glide. You should know how this works if you have a commercial pilots licence.

You really should be aware that this is a BBC explanation for a wide audience not an empirical full explanation of the physics of the craft. You make out that by picking holes in this you've dis-proven the whole idea of the earth being round, which is a terrible argument.

The fact that the program has taken a while to finish is irreverent to the argument the earth is flat. It is silly to mention this.

You should be able to see curvature at a few hundred feet up. Certainly by a thousand.

At that altitude, the curvature of the earth is still barely discernible by naked eye to be used as evidence in this forum.

Curvature can be seen here. Anyway according to the rules neither side should be using it in their evidence, pretty convenient for FE'ers if you ask me.

So what's the script when they start sending people up?  Are Virgin simply prepared to pay people hundreds of thousands of pounds to keep quiet about the hoax?  That is, assuming everyone who goes up keeps quiet.

Are wealthy members of the public, you know, people who don't need bribed they are so wealthy, all going to be a part of the conspiracy too?

Just a big long line of Mark Shuttleworth's yeah?

I'd love to see how all this pans out with these flights. I mean, after all, this should be a regular thing, so flights should be thick and fast with many passengers of the rich and famous variety.
Let's see who goes up in this shuttle cock and let's wait and see what they have to say about what they see.
Then we can see some lottery winner go up and see what they have to say, assuming they don't meet an unfortunate end, that is.

I'm well aware it's all a scam. I'm just waiting for the actors to act out the amazing scenes of what they see up there.
After all, they're not paid millions and millions just for reading scripts and pulling a few faces for the ever willing public to worship, for nothing, are they.
If you want to sell a lie, get the best actors, because all the filthy rich are actors in some way, shape or form.

It will only come to fruition the same way all the other stuff does. By video and artist drawings, plus plenty of CGI, coupled with narrating actors to sell it.

Thank you for demonstrating the manner in which the FES dodges knowledge.

What if, as speculated, you could actually just get on the flight yourself? Then in the future you couldn't really deny any of it unless you went up yourself and since you would seemingly have the opportunity, you have no excuse. The same goes for today btw. The tools and knowledge are available to test the earths shape and until you attempt to do so, you can't really deny it. It's obvious no attempts have been made by any flat earthers to do the known experiments. If you did, you'd believe in a round earth because it is round and the experiments prove it.

I have no idea if Virgin Atlantic will succeed. It's no simple task to make space flight available for everyone. I do trust in mans perseverance however and hope things like this will become a reality.

But that's assuming that they even feel the need to fake going into space.  I don't think they do.  It's more likely they'll just keep repeating the "Any day now," mantra until their customers finally lose patience and start suing them for breach of contract.  Branson is probably hoping that he can at least keep up the charade until he's dead.
