Sorry if it's a dumb question, but how do you make a gif your profile picture?
I saved a gif and made it my profile picture, but it didn't work.

Anyway, what they said is accurate.  Make sure it's of a proper size both resolution and file size.  Then link to it.

I only know about photobucket, but there should be an edit option somewhere and then a resize tool.

Hipster, I had the same problem. You have to tinker with it, and get the size down. I think it was 800 X 400 but i'm not sure.

This should work now.

Edit: for future reference, download the animation to your computer, open in GIMP.

Click Image -> scale image.  Reduce the width or height to make it smaller.  I made it 100 pixels wide.

Click File -> Export.  Select the option for .Gif and animation. 

Then just upload to a photo host and get the direct address for the picture.
