satellite signals and more...
« on: October 25, 2006, 07:06:46 AM »
hi guys, I'm new... so I'm going right to the question:

how do FE explain why, when changing latitude the distance between a star (for istance, the pole star) and the horizon changes? It's easy to explain it with a round earth... you say that stars are 3100 miles far... where? right over our heads?

and what about satellites?

"Q: "What about satellites? How do they orbit the Earth?"

A1: They don't, satellite signals come from radio towers."

pretty silly...

my parabolic antenna is pointed at 13° south (hotbird). when I watch south I can see AT LEAST 6 miles of plain country. so let's say the tower is somewhere overthere, it sould be about 1.3 miles... and it's simple math... tangent and all that stuff. so you're telling me that man can build 1.3 miles high invisible towers? because I can't see any...

Maybe the radio signals bounce of the starsphere and come back to Earth.  That would make it much easier to communicate and explain why you can't see the satellites.

What were you trying to say here? Because what you did say doesn't make any sense.

How do tangents apply to a flat earth?

I think they do, but like beast said....

What he's saying is that his antenna points upwards at a 13 degree angle. He sees that there is no antenna for 6 miles in that one direction. Therefore, the radio tower must be at least 6 * tan(13) = 1.385 miles tall, since his antenna must be pointed directly at the receiver.

However, I do believe that radio waves can bounce off the atmosphere...

The other deal is that you look into alot of other supposedly "satellite" products and find out that they really don't use satellite.

Google Earth is a large example of this.

thank you Skeptical Listener... it seems that even simple math is something beyond some people's mind...

so what is the atmosphere made of?

and again, what about stars? still waiting for a FE answer... if there's one. because it's easy to explain that with a round earth.

Its harder to explain on a Flat Earth merely because of the extremely small number of FE'ers, not to mention those who develop their skills professionally in order to study the problem more in depth.

what are you talking about? it's hard to explain it because you are simply creating an ex-novo universe. so unless your last name is Einstein or Tolkien it's pretty hard...

so what if those who are developing their skills suddenly realize (as I'm sure they do) that the earth is round and simply stop talking about nonsense stuff?

this teory simply can't work... physics, math, simple observations... it's all inside out.

Knowing the truth, to some people, makes anything that comes with it immaterial.
