Intel Core i7 4th Gen
« on: June 08, 2013, 10:45:43 PM »
I have ordered and received an Intel Core i7 4770K.  I have nothing to put it in yet, but I will by the end of the month.

The performance gain on almost all applications beyond an i5 2500k is negligible.

Only give a shit because it's great for saving power on laptops and offers much better on-board graphics performance.

No one with half a brain would put a 4770K in a laptop.

Keep in mind you're talking to a man who thinks a word-processing machine needs an SSD and a 1080p display.

I actually got it for free since my work paid for it, so I am not boasting about having a lot of money.  Although I do have a good bit of money.

EDIT:  Also, hi Thork.  It seems you have been drinking again.

I just acquired my 256GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD.  Getting closer to having something functional.  Going to get the motherboard next, then RAM, then storage drives.  Already have the video card.  May or may not get a new case & PSU.

You assess your needs and then pick parts accordingly. Shocking, I know, but failing to follow this simple guide is why you're failing to find a machine that suits you.

I haven't failed to find a machine that suits the specs, I've just failed to find one that's both in stock and on sale.

Right, clearly our definition of "picking parts according to needs" differs. If one of your needs is "it needs to cost less than $1000", then finding a machine that's super great but costs $1500 doesn't count.

I've found laptops priced at the $800 mark, the problem is finding them in stock. Touch screens and Windows 8 seem to be all the rage nowadays.

Because the tablet market is booming and Microsoft doesn't allow W7 for most computers.

Okay, yeah, finding a laptop that isn't there is also not finding a laptop. That's more akin to finding Jesus, now.

Not true.  We both have free RAM.
