I'm getting a Laptop

I am getting a laptop for my first year of college. I am not looking to break the bank here. I would like to stay under $1,000. What do you guys like in laptops at that price range. I look to you guys because I have no idea of what good specs are for a laptop.

"Good" depends on what you want to use it for. A good laptop for one purpose is not necessarily a good laptop for another purpose.

What is your intended use case?

If it is only to be used for school purposes, you can spend a whole lot less than $1k.  If you are not planning to use it for gaming, you can get one for around $400 that will meet all of your writing and internet needs.

I'm gonna do a little bit of gaming. I know that I'm not going to spend $1k that was just my maximum price. probably going to be more in the $600-$800 price range.
