Deleting Posts
« on: June 02, 2013, 10:48:56 AM »
Didn't we used to be able to delete our own posts? I was sure that was an option, but now I can only edit and am not able to delete my posts. Am I just taking crazy pills or has the option disappeared?

What the hell?! Now it showed up for this message, but not for all of my posts. Why can't I delete some of my own posts? Is it and has it always been time sensitive?

Has it?  That's interesting.  You are correct, you did used to be able to delete your own posts.  I'll open a topic in the moderator's forum.
Where did you educate the biology, in toulet?

Here's a visual of what I'm talking about.

Here I do not have the option to remove my post:

Here I do have the option to remove my post:

[edit] I also have the option to remove this post. I don't know why it seems so selective. I should be able to delete all of my posts regardless of where and when, yes?

Then I don't understand why I don't have the option to in the Netflix thread. The option is not there for any of my posts. In fact, it seems that I only have the option to remove my posts in this particular thread, that's why I'm wondering if the option is time sensitive? Can you delete your older posts? Or did this forum suddenly start hating me?

Different boards have different rules.

I thought users had the privilage to delete their own posts removed a long time ago?  Or was that just deleting their own threads?

That was just threads.

Yeah, that's odd. Apparently regular members are the only ones that have the permission to delete their own posts removed; it's enabled for every other membergroup. They also only have said permission in Suggestions & Concerns (including its subboards) and the Flat Earth boards. I'll fix this mess now. Let me know if you still cannot delete your posts after this.

Wilmore recently took it upon himself to stop us from deleting our posts in all of the boards.

I've collated the discussion of this nonsense issue in a handy S&C thread, if you'd like to find out more. It's long, but comprehensive.

If you prefer a short version that's subject to personal bias: Wilmore decided to stop letting us deleting posts because sceptimatic removed a bunch of posts from a thread and Thork whined about it in the Lounge. He (Wilmore) then said that this is a temporary measure and that he's happy to discuss it. Since then, he has proceeded to dismiss all complaints with sophisticated arguments such as "Nah". However, after a short PM conversation with me, he promised to give a decent response aaaaany moment now.

Every legitimate site allows you to delete your own posts. This is just silly and I'm sure there is no decent explanation that could convince me otherwise.
