Intentional thread derailment
« on: May 18, 2013, 01:07:36 AM »
I reported this post yesterday for derailing a thread. I expected that the offending posts would, at a minimum, be split off from the thread and moved to somewhere more appropriate, like CN.

When I approached a mod directly about the infraction, I was told that Thork's posts wouldn't be split or deleted because they were "more interesting" than mine. Apparently, whether or not they were contributive to the thread didn't matter.

I have two questions for the mods:
  • Are reports actually being read, or is using the report system a waste of my time and the mods' inbox storage space?
  • Should and does the level of interest a post has for the moderation team factor into whether or not it is considered derailment?
If nobody is going to remove Thork's posts from that thread in one way or another, then please lock the thread instead. I'm done with it.
I'm going to side with the white supremacists.

When I approached a mod directly about the infraction
Which mod would that be?

Irrelevant. I want the situation resolved, not fingers pointed.

It was Gayer.
Well, that explains that.

I see no problem.
He is posting in the exact same way you were. If you don't like other people posting in a thread, start a blog, not a thread.
You have been ignored for common interest of mankind.

Incorrect; but more importantly, irrelevant. I don't go into Supes' Must-Listen-To thread and start posting my impressions of all the recommendations people are making, nor do I post about the music I listen to in ONS's Music.

People routinely create threads in A&E that are intended for them to express their own views rather than have a free-for-all discussion. I would appreciate the same respect being given to mine as has been given to others'.

Now, your opinion doesn't really matter in any case, since you don't have the authority to make this decision. I didn't create this thread to debate whether or not Thork's posting is appropriate, but to solicit acknowledgement and a decision on the matter from the people who can make this decision. Please stop posting if that isn't you.

Whoa, hang on a minute. I saw a thread about Frank Zappa. I really enjoyed it and wished to give a couple of reviews myself. They were within the chronological order, within context, they were great reviews, they were specific to the concert dates required. Where's the problem? This is a forum. For people to debate. If you want a private record, save it on your hard drive. If you want to share reviews with like-minded Zappa fans ... hey buddy, glad to have found you. :D

Among other things, you plagiarised your reviews from another website. I did not.

It wasn't exactly a derailment, it was on topic. His posts don't stop you continuing to post your own reviews. A derailment would be changing the subject of the thread, not continuing it.

I have already stated that I did not create this thread to debate whether or not this posting is appropriate. I am waiting for someone (not you, since you've already shown how seriously you take this) in a position of authority to make a decision one way or another.

No, you have a decision. What you are doing is asking more and more people until you get the answer you want.

Additional: I happen to be going on a journey of spiritual enlightenment. I am learning much from the works of Jabir and Paracelsus and I suppose if I am ever to obtain inner transmutation to unite the above and below within my soul, I should share peace and understanding. I will delete my posts, not because I have to or because you are right, but because it is the path to Thoth.

Don't thank me. Thank Thoth.
