I don't think anyone would really notice.

Quote from: "Timmy!"
If the world WAS flat, at the end of the day, who gives a flying fu*k? Why spend your whole life worrying about it. Much the same as religion, it cannot be proved rightly or wrongly that there is a god, I can believe its a load of crap just as much as someone can believe there is a god controlling us all.

Okay, you know what? Shut up. I have heard numerous people say this, and it's plain and clear a really, really stupid argument.
A) Who said I spent my whole life worrying about it?
B) Wouldn't you like to know where your tax money is going?
C) Fanatical whimsy does not transcend inherent human lust for knowledge. PERIOD.

Quote
Also you not giving straight answers is further proof that you don't actually know the answer yourself. If you do know the answer - give it to me!

What answer are you looking for now? I didn't say I wouldn't answer questions directly relating to the theory, but what I won't do is bluntly tell you what you should be able to figure out yourself.

Quote
This entire theory is based upon the fact that the earth was flat right, then some bloke came along and said it was round, people laughed at him, but then some people proved he was correct, later on people actually figured that it WAS flat, but to spare the embarresment of the entire world, they thought they would keep it a secret. Am I right so far?

Maybe. It's a path that could have been taken. Also, this could be combined with many other factors, and, most likely, it's a combination of all of them (assuming you read the CCCC).

Quote
May I ask, do you believe that we are in a computer game? Very plausible I think... the same as in the film "the truman show" he believed his life to be real, in fact it was a mock-up. Could this be reality?

I refuse to respond to stoop as low as to rebuttal to such ad hominem attacks. It's not necessary.

Quote
At the end of the day, you believe what you believe and it doesn't really matter does it?

Right. What people believe doesn't matter. Ever heard of the Crusades, the Holy Roman Empire, the Cult of Reason, Charles Manson, the Holocaust, the Salem witch trials, the Jacobins, or Dividianists? I could continue if you'd like. You still stand to believe that what someone believes doesn't matter? That's just foolish.

Quote
I could set out to prove that we are being controlled by giant rabbits. Yes this sounds silly, but anything is possible...

If it suits you. I won't stop you. However I think the flat Earth theory is much more realistic than a giant rabbits theory.

Well, firstly I'll mention that this has nothing to do with this thread whatsoever. I'll also note that you said "and his government." I'm not sure what you meant by this, but that's totally out of line, honestly. It's probably just a mistake, but still the government of America is no way owned by the president.

As for Bush himself, I truly believe that he is a horrible person. Not in the fact that he's just stupid like people tend to think he is. I mean, sure, he's not a good speaker, which is part of the job, and thus he deserves to be made fun of for that plenty. But that's not why I dislike him. If you actually look at the things he's done, I have valid reason to say, in all honesty, that Bush is probably the worst president we've ever had.

Q: "What about the stars, sun and moon and other planets? Are they flat too? What are they made of?"

A: The sun and moon, each 32 miles in diameter, circle Earth at a height of 3000 miles at its equator, located midway between the North Pole and the ice wall. Each functions similar to a "spotlight," with the sun radiating "hot light," the moon "cold light." As they are spotlights, they only give light out over a certain are which explains why some parts of the Earth are dark when others are light. Their apparent rising and setting are caused by optical illusions.

i have just noticed you havent even mentioned the planets in your answer, and considering you were supposed to explain how the planets fit in to this rubbish theory i just thought it should be there

i know u have this in your FAQ, but there is no answer. Why does a ship disappear off the horizon first and not the sale??? surely this is proof that your stupid theory does not work. And if it was flat, things wouldnt disappear from the horizon, but the things do disappear off the edge of the horizon, so thereore the earth must be round

Dantheman40k, your remarks are both false and offensive.

While those accusation may be true against the US in a sense, your implications that a person is stupid simply for being born in that country are patently false.

Quote
you did reelect George Bush

Actually the voting turn out for the last US election was 64% - of which only 50.7% voted for Bush.  Therefore around 32% of Americans voted for Bush - clearly the majority of people did not.

Source

Quote
you bombed those cities in Japan

The bombing of Japan took place in the early to mid 1940s.  Anybody who took place in that bombing would now be aged at least 80 (18 at 1945 - which was 62 years ago).  Considering only 12.5% of American's are aged 65 or older, the vast majority of Americans clearly had nothing to do with the bombing of Japan.

Source

Quote
you are the biggist polluter in the world

While this may be true, the US is the 3rd largest country in the world.  If, instead of looking at the figure by nation, you look at it per person, you will see that each individual American is not the worst polluter in the world (people from the United Arab Emirates are).

Source

Quote
your country has propped up facist dictators like Saddam Hussain

That's true, however the US also removed Saddam Hussein from power (rightly or wrongly), and which countries spoke out against the US support for Saddam Hussein?  If it was so wrong, why did only Islamic fundamentalists like Osama Bin Ladin oppose the US's support for Saddam?

Quote
wasted millions of dollars on its military budget

I wonder how you define "wasted"?  That sounds like a personal opinion, rather than a fact.  In any event, while the USA spends a lot of money on its military, 45 nations spend a greater percentage of their budget on their military.  Being the 46st worst "waster of money" on military is hardly a significant criticism.

Source

Quote
one word IRAQ

So far 40 countries have supported the US by sending troops into Iraq.  If Americans are stupid because of Iraq, then so are the citizens of Australia, the UK, Japan, Italy, Holland, Spain and Norway, to name just a few.  Regardless of if the war in Iraq was the right decision or not, considering the voting turnouts in the US, it is hardly fair to blame the people for decisions that the majority of whom did not make.

Source

Quote
and then there is the shootings

Currently in America 0.002% of the population are killed with a firearm each year.

Source

Quote
the 'PATRIOT' Act

Again, considering the voter turnout at the 2000 election (to elect the people who passed the PATRIOT act), less than 26% of Americans supported the people who passed the PATRIOT act.  Clearly you cannot call Americans stupid based on that fact.

Source

Quote
overracting over a bunch of lite brites

The population of Boston is only 5.8 million - or about 0.02% of the population.  Even if every person in Boston over-reacted, which is not the case at all, it is still a minuscule minority to judge every American by.

Source

Quote
Bible nuts

44% of Americans attend church on a regular basis.  Clearly the majority of Americans cannot be described as "bible nuts" and the generalisation that Americans are stupid because of their religious belief is clearly false.

Source

Quote
Adam Sandler the list goes on and on

I presume that is a joke, because Adam Sandler movies, regardless of their quality, are highly successful globally, and clearly the quality of one actor does not have anything to do with the intelligence of a nation.

Quote
The only thing you havent done is Genosi-OH WAIT you have, against the Aboriginal Americans

If you believe that Americans are stupid because people from the same country committed genocide in 1890, I think that is a much stronger indication of your intelligence than anybody else's.  Considering native Americans have had the same legal rights as anybody else since 1924, it seems strenuous at best to blame the people alive now for the actions of others.

Source

So basically you put forward a number of reasons as to why Americans are stupid, and all those reasons were false reasons that did not lead to a conclusion that Americans are generally more stupid than the people from any other nation at all.

In fact, according to research by Dr. Tatu Vanhanen, there are only 17 nations with higher IQs than the US, and the difference from the country with the highest IQ and the US is only 9 IQ points.

Source

While that work is somewhat controversial, it is clear that there is no evidence that suggests Americans are stupid.  You are wrong on every point.  If you're going to make up accusations of a lack of intelligence and generalise about a nation of 300 million people, you should make sure you actually have some evidence to back up your claims.  When you consider the great influence that Americans have had on society and for the benefit of the human race - people like Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, John F Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, Martin Luther King, Isaac Asimov, Alexander Graeme Bell, etc. then it is clear that there are many Americans who are not stupid, and people who come from America are no more or less likely to be stupid than any other person.  Our knowledge of biology also tells us that it is extremely unlikely that the location that a person lives in has any bearing on their intellectual facilities.

I am an Australian, and have never visited the United States.  I have many problems with parts of American culture and with many of the political decisions that the US government makes.  However I also do not hold the people of America account for those decisions.  It is clear that they are not responsible and that they are generally no less intelligent than anybody else.  You may lack the intellectual capacity to differentiate between the decisions of a government and the decisions of individual people, but it is obvious that your assertion that Americans are stupid is false and that you are wrong.

Quote from: "the_earth_is_what???"
In relation to FE, all photos form outerspace are faked - I believe in a RE and I know that much.

I do find it interesting midgard, that you commented on the 2 posts sandwiching mine, yet neglected anything I said in your last 2 posts. I reposted it to hear you viewpoint when you get a chance.

Quote from: "the_earth_is_what???"
However, I would like to know then why, at any time point of the day, I can set up an experiment where I can place 2 identical poles a few miles apart on the same line of latitude, and measure their shadows and notice that the shadow lengths are different. If the sun was indeed a spotlight giving a spotlight effect, the poles would produce the same length of a shadow in those 2 areas, for the sunlight would be concentrating light evenly over the area the spotlight is shinning down upon. However, due to the curve of the earth, the sun's rays are hitting at different angles, thuse creating different sized shadows. This is an experiment I did in elementary school - were all you FE'ers absent that day?

You just don't understand light, grab a torch and you'll see. Face the torch down (it'll create a nice circular footprint). Get some toothpics and randomly put them around the light. You'll notice the lengths and directions of shadows change because the light doesn't just go straight down, it angles out from the torch. The same thing happens on a flat earth.

That was simple.

No, you don't understand your own FAQs (as this was copy and pasted directly from them):

"As they are spotlights, they only give light out over a certain are which explains why some parts of the Earth are dark when others are light"

What you so carelessly depicted in your above quote is a light source that is giving off light in all directions, much like the RE belief of the sun. To us, solar radiation is hitting the ground due to the curvature of the sun and the earth, thus creating varying shadows.

However, as your FAQs state, the reason the FE has days is due to the fact that the sun is concentrating it's light (much like a spotlight) in a specific area, thus leaving other areas of the FE dark (accouting for the days/time zones). So, if your sun does infact give off radiation much like a torch (or a close representative of the RE model of the sun) - how do you start to explain day patterns and different time zones?

Sorry to be redundant, but can you please stop focusing on the flamer and have a debate wirth someone with a question?

To further exemplify my point:

Take a flash light (a fairly concentrated beam of light) and line the toothpicks up on the same vertical line and shine the flashlight down on them - boom, all same length shadows.

Do the same thing on a larger scale (with the actual earth and same sized poles spread out farther) and the shadows are different in length. Can't really be a spotlight sun... the varying shadows are due to the curvature of the earth.

Sorry, this got lost on page 22 and never got answered due to forum spammers. Any FE'er will do, thanks guys.
know the earth is round, but I like to argue things that can't be proved 100% as well.
