Convince me the earth is flat.

Let's have a little fun. I believe RET is the correct theory, convince me otherwise. Go.

RET is wrong.  FET is right.  Convinced yet?

Let's have a little fun. I believe RET is the correct theory, convince me otherwise. Go.

I don't think that's possible.  You have to allow it to happen yourself by opening your mind to the possibility.   I used to be a round earther, so I understand how intensely it's driven into our brains from childhood.  it's a very difficult thing to overcome.

I didn't become a flat-earther by reading compelling arguments or posted evidence here.  Like you, and many other newbies, when I first found this site, I laughed at it.  I couldn't believe anyone could be so ignorant as to believe the earth was flat.  Then I came back.  And I came back again.  Each time I found myself oddly fascinated.  I never posted, I only lurked, but I kept coming back, and each time I got a little closer to being able to make the leap.

The change happened gradually, and wasn't an easy process.  I was convinced the way most of us were, by finally allowing myself to forget all the things I'd been taught, or learned from books, and everything I thought I knew, and allow observation to teach me anew.  This applies to many things.  The shape of the earth is simply the most fundamental of the observations.

Open your mind, and decide that for the rest of the day you will consider each and every opportunity of Earth being flat. Then look at the Sun, Moon and planets, and most stars, and see how they cross the horizon (dawn and dusk) in the North East and North West, respectively, in this flat Earth. Then look at where the Sun, Moon and planets really cross the horizon. Go out and see for yourself. With all your open mind you may become a true Flat Earther. But it will last just a day.

Ooooooooh close, but not yet. Might need a little more evidence.

I think you've grossly misunderstood the purpose of these fora. No one cares if you find FET convincing or not.

And I don't care that you don't care. I'm just here for some solid FET evidence. I'm genuinely curious.

We also have a wiki and a library that you can use to get more familiar with our theories.

However, this is the Flat Earth debate section.  You can't have a one sided debate.  I am going to move this to another board if you have no intention of debating the shape of the Earth.

Observation? I can only see observation that contradict with each other. Those observation made by FE is more like gut feeling.

So far there is no FE model that are align with our daily experience.

If you're hoping for solid evidence, you're in for disappointment. As Oscar said, these fooras are not really about that.

So you wish to be convinced???  ;)

The first piece of evidence I typically offer in defense of the FE model is the existence of the Churlonian Gravity Fields that surround our planet.  These fields, in a sense, compact the Earth, forcing it into the shape of a large pancake.  The gravity fields also keep our world from floating off into space.   :-*

Another potent part of the FE theory is the Dodoongian Tidal Effects that could only be possible on a 'flat' Earth.  In a constant flowing and ebbing, these effects 'strain' the Earth's surface, forcing it into a thin 'pizza crust' that we can all enjoy.  Just don't try to venture too close to the edge in search of a cheesy crust LIKE THE ONE THEY HAVE AT PIZZA HUT LOL!!!!  8)

I hope this helps.  If you have any further questions, please direct them to me, as I am a leading authority on the FET.  Also, I am speaking at a conference in Vancouver in two weeks, so try to make it if you can!  >o<

Can I ask where these terms come from? I just googled 'churlonian' and 'dodoongian' and got zero hits. Did you make them up yourself? If so what validity can they possibly hold.

Shabaranganian energy tells me you may very well have invented these yourself.

Obviously those terms come from his imagination.  This site attracts some trolls who like to pose as FE'ers and spout complete gibberish in order to tarnish the reputation of genuine FE'ers.  Sadly, sometimes the gibberish that some genuine FE'ers spout can be hard to distinguish from the gibberish that the trolls posing as FE'ers spout, so just take all of it with a grain of salt.

Where else would terms come from?  Certainly they all come from someone's imagination.  What makes their authority, or Webster's authority greater than his?

The problem is not whose imagination they come from, the problem is if he is going to substantiate them with any kind of working model of something. Markjo does not believe it because there is no attempt whatsoever to define them, not even a promise to do so in the future.

And, by the way, is this imagination thing not the antithesis of Zeteticism?

Exactly! Zeteticism is the only thing makes believing flat earth even remotely possible. I can almost get my head around someone believing the earth is flat because that is what they observe immediately around them. But the amount of bullshit that is invented over and above the observation. Aether, skydomes, antimoon, moonshrimp and whatever imaginary words that don't mean a thing to anyone but the person that thought it up. And you expect us, anyone to take you, your theory, and this society seriously?

All I can say to that is penderilium babavalacobobo slaph.

Now... What does that mean??

I'll tell ye... NOTHING!

Same as whatever sandokhum is talking about.

Utter nonsense.

Okay instead of telling me why the earth is flat, tell me why it's not round. Everything in history and science for hundreds of years makes it obvious the earth is round, and all of a sudden you guys are just going to deny hundreds(thousands?) of years of scientific discovery?

Uh, yeah? It's a very simple concept and I'm still baffled as to why people don't believe it. The earth is round. It spins. Just like almost all other celestial objects in our solar system, galaxy, and universe...

One can,  if one were high enough -- which does not happen in commercial airliners.  This alone certainly does not make it "obvious" that the earth curves.

Certainly a question.  I suppose there are lots of ways to examine it.  However, the important thing is not to take the data you gather as fact, but instead as data.

At what point does this data become something other than mere data? If that which we gather is just data where do facts come from?

The creation of facts is harmful.  Once we start calling things "factual" or "truthful" or any other name, we start giving them power.   Power we don't need to be using.  Facts come when we belief data.  If we have facts, there is no purpose to continue science, as we have already real truth.  Live *simply*.  It doesn't matter what you believe, just do it with the least impact you can to others.
