12/21/12? Is it a common belief here?
« on: December 19, 2012, 11:15:44 AM »
I was wondering if you flat earth folks believe the world is going to end on Friday.

Do you guys think "Planet X" will smash into Earth?

I'm moving this to Flat Earth General. I was tempted to throw it into the pseudoscience forum. We'll see how the thread goes.

Official line: The flat earth society has absolutely no mention of an apocalypse on 21st of December.

Only an RE'er would be looney enough to think the world is ending this Friday.

I know several RE'ers who think the world will end on Friday.  I tried to bet them money against it, but none would take me up on it.  I suppose they don'y believe as much as they say they do.

I didn't really think people took it that seriously until I found their website "december212012.com". Freaking joke, all of it. They're even selling gas masks and food supply for like $150 a tub.

It's a sketchy website, I didn't get anything bad from though.

It is a shame how gullible some people are.  And an even bigger shame how people will profit off of those gullible ones.

I was reading an article the other day about a scientist who has been receiving a lot of emails about the world ending on Friday.  People have commented about committing suicide or killing their kids so they don't have to suffer.  It is really sad.

You could have a lot of fun with that.

The scientist that I was referring to has been getting questions like these for many years.  I wonder how many suicides and murders could actually be attributed to this fear?

I read that the guy who slashed all of those school kids in China last week did so because of the doomsday thing.  It is hard to imagine what is going on in these peoples' minds.

I have a neighbor who is a doomsday believer. That's what made me look into it. He thinks that there is some secret army being trained that will try to take control once the world is destroyed.

He's giving away all of his stuff, building a trench underneath his house. I just hope he doesn't go insane and try to kill me or something on the 22nd. I feel very bad for his kids.

Planets are very small objects and I doubt it one collided, which is impossible due to the UA, it would not do much damage to Earth.

Also, if in the extremely small case the Mayan Calendar is right, and the Earth ends. Why in the word should anyone stock up something? If anything, if you believed that the world was going to end, party!

Here is my idea for the apocalypse. The hollow Earth guys were right, but get this, on the 21st the Earth turns inside out. Making us the hollow Earth entities and the hollow Earth then exists on the exterior.

How could the Gregorian Calendar go on forever with out ending?  It just starts over every time it runs out.

They seem to have released it 2 days early. ???

They actually released it more than a week early.

Edit:  The date it was posted on youtube is Dec 11, so it was released at least 10 days early.

Allegedly the sun, earth and Milkyway galactic centre were all aligned in 1998. It completely ignored every other planet, the stars, comets, other galaxies. Basically 3 things out of all the billions of things in the sky happened to be in a row for a bit on one arbitrary day in some arbitrary year some time ago.

That 3 thing alignment actually happens every single year but in 1998 it supposedly looked more perfect because of the apparent wobble of the earth.

Basically NASA sat about making stuff up and that was the best they could come up with. 'Perfect galactic alignment'. Three things in a row that happens every year anyway except on one year wobble made it a bit better. I hate round earth theory. If you are going to make stuff up, at least make it interesting.

Twice a year this happens. It happened around this time last year as well as about 6 months ago.

Well, technically its a different alignment of the same 3 things 6 months apart. It goes earth/sun/galactic centre instead of sun/earth/galactic centre but Meh. Its a really dumb thing to pay any attention to.

Quote
But to answer our initial question, what makes the  Winter Solstice of 2012 so special? Well, on December 21st   2012 a very rare alignment will occur in the  Earth’s precession cycle of 25.920 years. Although the exact date  is hard to determine, somewhere around the ending of the Maya calendar, the  Earth, the Winter Solstice Sun and the galactic equator will align. As the  alignment occurs the Sun will enter the Dark Rift of the Milky Way near the center of our galaxy. So this  alignment is very rare in the precession cycle. Since it occurs at the winter solstice of 2012 (21st   December 2012), it is also called the Winter Solstice Galactic Alignment.

As mentioned above, the exact date of this alignment is very hard to calculate but astronomers now believe that this  alignment occurred in 1998. However since the Sun is half a degree wide, it  takes at least 36 years for the Sun to completely precess through the galactic  equator. The Sun entered the galactic equator during the Winter Solstice of 1980  and will have completely cleared the galactic equator on the Winter Solstice of  2016. The years between 1980 and 2016 is called the Galactic Alignment zone or era-2012.  In Chapter One we mentioned that Edgar Cayce predicted that the time of the changes on  Earth would take place between 1958 and 1998 whereas 1998 is the culmination  point of this alignment.
