This test shows where your beliefs lie on the political spectrum, in the form of a 2-dimensional graph:

http://www.politicalcompass.org

The horizontal dimension is leftishness/rightishness, the vertical dimension is authoritarian/libertarian. The horizontal axis ranges from -10 (far left) to 10 (far right); the vertical axis ranges from -10 (anarchist) to 10 (authoritarian). My score is -7.00 left, -6.41 libertarian. What's yours?

Neat.  Sounds about right, I suppose.  I find it interesting that my dot is right about where Ghandi's was on the example compass.  I wonder if he had anger problems like I do as well.

No surprises there.  I've done this a while ago and the only change is that I'm less liberal than I used to be, which is probably because I'm more cynical.

Seems I'm fairly squarely a libertarian economic right-winger.

Some of the questions in the test kind of don't allow for me to adequately express my specific beliefs though, for example:

Quote
The prime function of schooling should be to equip the future generation to find jobs.

The prime function at the moment is to teach that the Earth is round. What should it be? The opposite? I don't really know. I'm a bit of a lafarguist - work sucks. I strongly disagreed but I'm not sure it "read it" right.

This question was total bogus too:

Quote
A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system.

That is a significant advantage, nobody can deny that, but I bet it reads it as "this person supports a one-party state" if you agree. I don't, so I voted strongly against even though it is a significant advantage.

haha.  You're amusing, Dogplatter.

I was a little put off by the education-related questions myself.

If the education system were for equipping us with jobs, we'd be living in more of a socialist state like Russia or China, where our talents are monitered as we age, and are given appropriate jobs.  In ways, sounds kind of barbaric, but most people I've talked to in that situation don't mind a whole lot.  People like their minds made up for them.

The prime directive of the education system is for education.

The one about making classroom attendance compulsory kind of bothered me too.  I can't count how many times I've sat through classes, already knowing the subject in great detail and could have easily tested out if given the option.  I don't think attendance should be forced, if students can demonstrate being able to understand the subject, and/or can demonstrate the ability to learn the subject themselves (i.e. independant study).  I don't like the idea of standardizing the schools, as everyone learns at different rates and with different methods.

What really gets me are those tests that are supposed to tell you what job you should get.  There are never any interesting jobs on there.

I don't think that school attendance should be compulsory (read: kids shouldn't be punished for it) since if you don't attend you won't get good grades anyway.  The same goes for homework.  It's really dumb to write a kid up for not doing homework for the same reason I stated earlier.

I know what you're talking about, but for some reason the name of those tests aludes me.  At any rate, those are hardly much to go on.  You can purposely answer the questions based on what you want, as opposed to something you may be better predisposed to do.

The thing with those other countries, is that your job is chosen for you based on performance.  I don't know if it is completely compulsory or not, but I think it's reasonable in a few ways.  Definitely a lot easier than having to find a damn job, as I've found.

[edit]I'm sure I'm misinformed, as I don't think jobs are neccessarily chosen for you, but your education is tailored more towards your strong suits.  I'm going off of a video I watched about the Chinese swim teams that constantly kicked everyones' asses back in the day, so I'm not claiming to be completely credible.
