As a Communist myself, I have absolutely no idea what Parsifal and Thork are talking about with strategies that the Communists had.  This game seemed to be very exclusive.

You didn't get any PMs? I had to contact Thork first, but there was still some strategy discussion.

Don't be ridiculous. Saddam wouldn't waste time trying to play the game when he could just post "Dumb Dome" once a day.
I'm going to side with the white supremacists.

This game was much more successful than dumb dome.
I don't know what you're implying, but you're probably wrong.

I thought of a possible improvement to the rules that might open the game up to more strategy.  Instead of six people who don't know what each other are, maybe split each party up into two coalitions of three people.  Members know who's in their coalition but not who's in the other coalition making up their party.  The winning condition can be a full coalition plus two other members of the same party.

Honestly, I think the main problem came from the game being too complex for this type of game. Werewolf works because it is very simple.

The game probably could be ironed out but I'll leave that to somebody else. Running it was difficult owing to the number of PMs which had to be sent out, positions to be tracked, and making sure that the wrong people didn't receive such-and-such information. I mean, it involved 20 individual PMs before the game even began.

The problem is, that all the outcomes and contingencies can't be forseen until you start playing it. Thork seems to think I didn't give much thought to the game mechanics, which is simply false. I deliberately introduced the idea of the knights to try and give the players a way of unbalancing the game as it went on, I deliberately withheld spy's information from them so that as few people knew the identities of other party-members etc etc.

Inactive players are a concern in any of these kind of games and I can't think of a way to deal with them which wouldn't add another ton of complexity to an already complex system.

Thanks for stiking with it, though.

I did get PMs, but I don't recall there being any overall strategy that we were supposed to be following.  There was certainly no discussion of what to do with Parsifal.

Also, Dumb Dome.

Thanks again, Chris. You put a buttload of work into it and at least tried something new. The same can't be said for anyone else. It was fun and, if nothing else, an experience. So really, great job and thank you. :D

I still think the concept is excellent. However, I feel like it could do with being 'Werewolved up' - you need real, out-and-out bad guys for these kind of games. So next time, I'd suggest that there's a secret Space-Nazi party. Okay, maybe named to be more in keeping with the theme, but you get the idea. Basically, everyone is part of a given party, but there's also an evil 5th column within the ranks, assassinating members of parliament in order to stage a coup.

The mechanics would be set up so that this evil foreign influence had to be defeated, but the competing parties have to work together to do it. A party would win if and only if the 5th columnists have been defeated, and they hold a majority in parliament. The 5th columnists win if they kill enough MPs to be able to stage a coup and dissolve Parliament. Arresting the 5th Columnists would require cross-party support, but would also inevitably involve some MPs voting to arrest members of their own party. Breaking the party line and voting against a fellow party-member might win you trust, but possibly suspicion.

Some of the voting mechanisms might have to be trimmed in order to accommodate the new stuff, but I'm not sure which or how. I might have a think about this and suggest some ideas, because I really like the concept.

Oh, and sorry I've been so inactive.
