Polyphasic sleep
« on: March 07, 2015, 11:22:44 AM »
Starting today I am going to be getting into a polyphasic sleep cycle, more specifically the Uberman cycle where I sleep 6 times a day for a total of 2-3 hours.  I will take about 10 days to adapt, and during that time I will be so tired that I will be at risk of falling asleep in the middle of a conversation.

The reason I bring this up is because flat earthers have been throwing around accusations like balls in a dodge-ball game and I didn't want to mislead anyone.  This will mean that I will be posting at more absurd times, so now you know why I will not be absent from the forum at night.  I will probably not spend much more time on this forum then I usually do, but it will be more spread out because I will be awake more.  For the next 10 days though I will be really tired and I will need something to do to avoid falling asleep at the wrong time and ruining my sleep cycle, so I might spend more time here then usual.

I might post some updates on this thread about how my adaptation to the new sleep cycle is going if anybody actually gives a flying chainsaw.

What is the purpose of this and why have you decided to try it?

It's mostly so I can have enough time to do school, animation, and have something that resembles a social life at the same time.

Actually, prepare to say goodbye to social life.

Dinner and movie with friends? That looks like it's gonna cut into your sleeping schedule. Going out with friends? better keep it short.

I agree. I don't see how this would improve your social life at all.

It's certainly an improvement from spending most of my free time doing animation related stuff.

I am not asleep, I am just doing things that are not on the flat Earth society forum.  It's 5:00 AM for me right now and I haven't slept sense I woke up on Saturday morning.  I am doing the initial sleep deprivation phase so I can sleep at the necessary times more easily.

A small mistake happened and last night I accidentally slept half the night, but I have only just barely started the adaptation phase so it's OK.

I fucked up my sleeping schedule because i cannot currently sleep when it's raining. Sucks when you live in a rain forest.

I stopped doing my new sleep cycle for a few reasons: my exact cycle was experimental and I wasn't sure if it was going to work anyway, I don't think that I could have adapted to it before my spring break ended, and I didn't really like having to take naps in the day.  I will probably switch over to a polyphasic sleep cycle in the summer, but I am not 100% sure about that.

What a surprise. The most often repeated advice about polyphasic sleep cycles is to not start with the single most difficult one, which is Uberman.

Why don't you just make better use of your time that you have every day?
