How many tabs do you usually have open?

For me, it starts out reasonable at like two, but eventually I end up having >10 tabs up and Chrome crashes when I try to do more stuff. I try to crack down on it but I can't stop. Especially if I get on Wikipedia and start getting all learnlearnlearnlearn and end up going from the origins of electronica to reading about Gary Johnson's stance on political issues. Then slowly work my way back since I have a bunch of half-read articles open.

Does this carp happen to you? Where and how and what are the side effects?

/inb4someone says TVTropes. Which I've never understood. I've been linked there a ton and may find a page interesting, but I've never done more than read like one or two pages.

Usually just 3 or 4. I don't like having lots of tabs open, for some reason.

There is 3 on my work computer and 7 in my phone. Plus outlook at work. sometimes up to 7 at work.

That carp doesn't happen to me. I have two open right now - this and BBC Sport page. Sometimes I get up to around 10 if I'm FESing and listening to the radio and following my fantasy football teams live and writing a reply that needs a few sources.

But this doesn't crash IE9. Might I suggest you try a better browser/OS?

I casually have eight open right now. I wish I could just have two like you. :(

And I think it's more a case of my crappy computer. It takes like 10 minutes to get from starting it up to being able to actually do anything and can't have many programs open before it starts to lag the living heck out of itself. I had nothing against Internet Explorer before I tried other browsers, because IE is a mess of lag on this thing.

I typically keep my tabs under control -- usually not more than 12 at a time. When I'm working I can easily get up to 40-50 tabs, though.

Then no. >:( Also Firefox wasn't much better when I used it. It didn't like me having many tabs up and felt a bit slower, at least on this computer.

Yes.  With my high speed internet, loading FES is so quick that keeping the tab open doesn't save me any time.

I usually fluctuate between around ten to somewhere nearer to thirty. I realise I do not need that many tabs, but I am reluctant to close tabs I haven't finished reading. When at least seven of those tabs are wikipedia entries, things quickly spiral out of hand.

I have 15 tabs that I always have open, and on top of that is random crap that seems to pile up pretty quick - I've often found myself having 80+ tabs open. I have the same problem as George Washington, I don't want to close tabs unless I'm sure I won't need it anymore. Occasionally I just purge everything and whittle it down to the 15 permanent tabs.

Quite the same. I have been saving all of the tabs I usually have open in folders in the bookmarks bar from time to time just so I won't forget about them. I have built up quite a collection of internet detritus up there. I should clean that up some time.

I'm currently at 17 :x as I'm working on a bunch of things right now.

Usually I've 50 on Firefox, 50-100 on Chrome (sometimes on two instances). On Linux after reaching 100-150, my machine is so slow, that's already dying. On Mac it kind of works, but sometimes my kernel is crashing. Windows? I don't know if it's even possible.
