Pirates dont kill always, but often would leave people stranded, and beside, Vikings would raid land, which is the same as Pirates raiding ships, both take lives.  From my understanding Vikings didnt raid specifically to kill people, they would do so for money and such.  Pirates did essentially the same, only pirates would do so in small groups, Vikings were controlled by their king.

I won't deny I'm a nerd.  I watch Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Battlestar Galactica religiously.  Babylon 5 was one of the best sci-fi shows ever and Deep Space Nine wasn't nothin' but a rip-off.  Star Trek paved the way for good scifi and a few years later Star Wars was the coolest thing ever.  Firefly and Serenity are the coolest thing ever.  How often do you get a movie and TV series that is the Wild West in space?
