Google SSL
« on: November 25, 2010, 05:51:25 AM »
I was wondering if anyone else had opinions on Google's Encrypted search page?

https://www.google.com/

I have been using it for a few weeks. It works fine. I imagine this will be of much use to people at work who don't want their bosses to snoop on their lunch time activities. Is it a massive benefit to home users?

Everything that can be encrypted should be, IMO.

I use Scroogle's SSL search. It has the dual benefit of being encrypted and not revealing my IP address to Google.

Has anyone found an image search with SSL? Google nor scroogle nor yahoo nor duckduckgo (which is good) have an SSL image search. The only one I have found is Google's SSL image search for mobile phones. But it looks shit on a regular computer.
Also why isn't FES https? We discuss very sensitive personal views, + have a logon screen + people could logon from work ;). It might also discourage those spambots if they don't know where the link came from in the first place, there would be less point in creating it. Site analysts don't want people arriving from https sites. I appreciate that it will use more resource, but I would be staggered if Parsifal hasn't asked for this before to protect his privacy.
I think it would be a good advert also, from such a progressive forum.

There's Ixquick, but its image search is kind of shit.

Probably because Daniel hasn't purchased a SSL certificate. Not that he would need to, now that there is CAcert.

I don't think you fully understand what SSL is.

It changes your font into Webdings so that you can't read what is written, right?

No. As you are well aware, I stopped using google when they pulled all their privacy policies together into one large spying charter back in February. I use DDG.

Of course you necroed a thread that was almost a year old so you can't really expect it to be up to date.

More like, you stopped using Google when they reminded you about their policies that they've been using for years but you were too stupid to know that.
